Dh has had stomach and back pain for 12 hours, what could it be?

Dh woke up with stomach ache this morning and has spent most of the day doubled up in pain (in bed), at first i thought it was a bug but so far no d&v. He says it hurts across the middle and lower stomach and across the middle of his back. Any ideas what it could be? I'm starting to get worried as dh rarely complains about anything and it doesn't seem to be getting any better Sad. He's still eating and drinking.

Sorry he is feeling so unwell. Could it be kidney stones?

If he's not getting better a trip to A&E might be sensible.

Marne · 06/11/2010 21:22

Could be Sad, he wont go to A&E, its hard enough getting him out of the house at the best of times, he's never had anything wrong with him so thinks he will be fine. He said 'wait and see what its like in the morning' Hmm.

Middle of lower stomach, or one side?

colditz · 06/11/2010 21:26

Kidney stones, kidney infection. Lots and lots of lukewarm water, a glass every half hour. Go to A & E if it gets excrutiating.

colditz · 06/11/2010 21:27

if he's got a kidney stone he's going to feel like he's in labour soon, so he WILL go to A&E

Marne · 06/11/2010 21:27

Middle of stomach (low down and high up, so almost all over) and across the middle of his back. I'm trying to get him to show me wear but being a typical man he's saying 'it hurts all over'.

He said it feels slightly better when he's drinking a warm drink (he maybe saying this so i go and make him coffee).

Mmm. Sounds like my DH just before I took him screaming to A & E. It was kidney stones. Unfortunately went the back way to the hospital and got a bit lost. He still hasn't forgiven me.

No idea what it could be but he needs a doctor?

Marne · 06/11/2010 21:56

No one to look after the dd's, would have to send him in a taxi.

At the moment i don't think he's in enough pain to go to A&E, if he's still like it in the morning then i will take him myself.

At the very least you should do the on line diagnosis on NHS Direct.

I would ring NHS Direct too, hope he is ok.

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 06/11/2010 22:22

There are several causes of this type of pain, difficult to tell apart without seeing him! Could be stomach ulcer pain though, as well as kidney stones as others have suggested. Another vote for calling NHS direct, or going to A&E.

Borisismyhousespider · 06/11/2010 22:24

Ohhh my dh is in bed with the same thing! I told him to go Dr's yesterday and he wouldn't, now he's in more pain 'sigh' I'm thinking kidneys too, hope your dh is ok soon (as am hoping mine is too)

blinks · 06/11/2010 23:44

if the pain is constant and/or above his belly button, he really needs to be seen.

blinks · 06/11/2010 23:49

i'd be thinking poss gallstones by the way, meant to add that to my post.

Constance39 · 07/11/2010 18:42

Jeez. I reckon NHS direct would tell you to be seen urgently.

I would too!

Please try and get him there this evening, it'll be harder to organise in the middle of the night if it gets worse - and it might be dangerous to leave it. The problem isn't going away, therefore it may become critical.

Good luck...I know men can be v stubborn.

Borisismyhousespider · 08/11/2010 22:07

Marne, how did your dh get on? did he go Dr's, mine hasn't yet, said this am, 'I'm feeling slightly better Hmm' then later today rang from work and said, I might go to Dr's tomorrow Hmm

phipps · 09/11/2010 17:19

How are all the DH's today?
