Caring for a terminally ill family member at home?

I'd appreciate hearing from others who've had experience of this.

My grandmother has end stage COPD,and possible dementia, and has deteriorated badly over the past month or so.

Thankfully her GP practice is excellent, and we've received wonderful support and care from the doctors.

They've just arranged for the Marie Curie nurses to visit us,starting Monday,as we've all agreed she'd prefer to be cared for at home. I'm not sure what to expect, but I'm hoping they can make her a little more comfortable.

I'd like to hear how others have dealt with similar situations. If they received the help of palliative care nurses, and about any other aspects of home care for a terminally ill person.

TIA

I just wanted to say I can't help, but feel for you and hope someone joins in soon with more useful help.

But from what I know Marie Curie nurses are the business.

Thankyou both for the bump and kind words.

My dad was cared for at home by my Mum.

He had district Nurses who varied greatly in their abilities to care for a terminally ill patient.
The Hospice Nurse that came later was fantastic.
We did find that it took a long while for items to be available, my dad needed a special bed which sadly came too late.
We also found lack of communication between agencies frustrating.

I know the above sounds negative, but the plus was that my Dad did get to die at home as he wanted. Mum and I were with him when he passed.

Marie Cure should be great. If there are any particular questions you want to ask feel free.

I do feel for you.
