On and off for the past couple of weeks, I have been getting to tea time and feeling dreadful - sore throat, swollen glands, achey and sore. Hot bath and early bed seem to sort me out but then it comes back the next evening.

What could it be? i've just been getting by on nurofen or paracetamol but am worried I should be doing something else, it's getting ridiculous.

Might have an underlying infection, I had a UTI last year that made me feel like that, but I didn't have any of the usual other symptoms.

Worth checking with your GP.

Probably a virus, if you're ok in the mornings but worse by evening. A GP told me that viruses tend to make you feel bad in waves, or in the evening, whereas infections make you feel more constantly crappy, iyswim. Two weeks isn't unusual, with a viral infection.

I've just had/have shingles, and I still feel like that after more than 2 weeks...though shingles is a long lasting one, it seems!

thanks. i didnt realise UTIs could make you feel rough. lucky enough never to have had one.

Eli, shingles is awful, it took me a long time to get over it, i felt like i'd been knocked down by a bus if i overdid it! you have my sympathy.

I felt like that for several months when I had sort of chronic mastitis when my third child was small. In the end I got an abcess then I got treated (with anti-Bs) and finally realised what had been making me feel so rough.
