Problems going to the loo, IBS??

IM in need of some help please.

This has been going on for about 3 weeks now. I get constipated and cant go to the loo, end up straining and now have piles. I also get alot of trapped wind and if I dont let it out there and then I end with with horrendous tummy aches.

So, now I have piles, think they are inside. I cant go to the loo properly, sometimes constipated, sometimes dirrohea, have the urge that I need to go alot of the time but nothing is there.

I feel bloated, mainly in evenings, tried cutting out bread for past couple days and fele slightly better but tonight I can feel the bloating coming on.

I have started using suppositries to try and help with the piles.

Is this IBS, do you think I should go to docs?

PS, if I stay over at anyones house for the night I wont go for a poo there and end up holding it in which is a big cause to my belly aches aswell.

Thanks

Now you know you shouldn't be holding it in, don't you...why won't you poo at someone else's house? Worried about smells? You could just pack an air freshener spray in your overnight bag. But everybody poos, and no-one is going to judge you! (presumably if you're staying over at their house you have a reasonably close relationship with them in any case...)

I think you need to go to the doc - it could well be IBS, in which case there are treatments and medications you can try. In terms of self-help - you need to sort out the constipation. Loads of water is the first step. Then try prune juice, tinned fruit, baked potatoes with their skins on, that sort of thing. Green leafy veg and broccoli can make some people gassy so try them with caution. Make sure you are getting a bit of exercise each day - a gentle walk is fine - as moving about will help get your system going. If all else fails, try a gentle laxative - lactulose or Fybogel would be a good start. Suppositories will help the piles but to get rid of them you need to make your poos softer so you don't strain.

Go and chat to your GP - I'm sure they can make you feel much better.

Try cutting out wheat gluten and see if that helps.

Hi npg - the fact you've stated that you have the 'urge' to go but nothing there has prompted me to tell you about Ulcerative Colitis (UC).

I have had UC for the last 14yrs. UC is an inflammatory bowel disease which in summary is an ulcerated colon. I am on lifelong medication and have regular flare-ups and am under a Consultant for regular check ups at the hospital.

Symptoms are:

  • Frequent loose bowel movements with or without blood
  • Urgency to have a bowel movement and bowel incontinence
  • Consitpation
  • Lower abdominal discomfort or cramps
  • Fever, lethargy, and loss of appetite
  • Weight loss with continuing diarrhea

I would recommend that you take a look at the following websites:
www.nacc.org.uk
www.ulcerativecolitis.org.uk

I would also recommend that you do not try to self medicate or self diagnose because our bowels are the very core of us and it has been my experience that if they're upset I'm no good for anything.

Good luck, don't put off asking your Doc's advice.

Hi, thanks everyone for your advice.

I hate going to the loo at other peoples house, yes because of the smell lol.

I have decided I will go to the doctor tomorrow.

I went a couple of times yesterday but it was hard and the same this morning. I feel like I need to go now but I know nothing will come out. I also feel full up today and could go without eating but have just had lunch.

Thanks for the websites I have had a quick browse through, will look more tonight when I sit down!
