Glucosamine Sulphate while BF?

LaTristesse · 03/11/2010 08:02

Does anyone know if I can take Glucosamine Sulphate while breast feeding? My joints are feeling the strain of carrying the baby (in more ways than one!) and I could really do with the help...

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I can't answer your question but have you seen an obstetric physio? Your local hospital should have a team you can be referred to quite quickly who may be able to help you.

Glucosamine Sulphate is not safe for use during pregnancy and lactation, mainly due to them having demonstrated problems with bad reactions in the under 2s.

But I don't think you're missing much as Glucosamine Sulphate has a pretty poor evidence base for all joint conditions.

Omega-3 fish oils are probably a more effective bet but don't exceed the stated dose.
To much Vit. A can be nasty.

I have arthritis and my Dr suggested that I might try GS and see if it helped, but he specifically told me to wait until I had stopped breast feeding first.

Lovely, thanks for your replies, I'll give it a miss!

And thanks for the suggestion Sync... I'll talk to my GP - my DS is 8mo now, so I'm out of the system as far as my pregnancy goes, but I'll see if she'll refer me.
