Dentist Q re broken tooth

I have broken the back off one of my top teeth this motning and lost the filling.The whole feels huge I can get my tongue tip in it.There is no pain at all it just feels v exposed iykwim.I have a dental appt just reg check up on Nov 18th but I rang today and receptionist said it isn't an emergency and unless I am in pain wait until the 18th.This has worried me a bit because last week my dp had an abcess and I have NEVEER seen him like that in tears with the pain etc.I have had a renal transplant and cannot take ibuprofen or aspirin so am worried about if it does flare esp at weekend and I have no pain relief.My option is to phone tomorrow and say it is hurting and get an emergency slot

Yes I would get the emergency slot - stupid system

Go for the next available slot.....you could point out that you are also freeing up the appointment on the 18th.

If you can get an emergency slot then that would obviously be good, but if not, tooth holes always feel massive and (ime) you can go quite a while with a hole and not necessarily get any pain.

18th of November isn't ideal - if it was me I'd be constantly poking away at the hole with my tongue which is irritating - but probably not going to make any difference to the outcome.

I speak as one who went around with a hole in her tooth for the best part of 5 years (don't do as I do etc )

I think I will i think the fear of how painful it could become is scaring me!

If you've had a kidney transplant then not a great idea to get an infection I shouldn't have thought so I'd hope they'd make you a priority case if you tell them.

Thats what I thought suzi.I am going to ring in teh morning and say it has been painful over night.My dp was living off nurofen and still was in pain so can't risk it.

they might be able to tell it wasn't hurting, if the nerve is not exposed though...(work for a dentist)

I had a cusp fracture last week on a tooth and just phoned up and asked for an emergency appointment and got one for the same day.

I would ring now and ask for one tomorrow and explain your circumstances.

They told me to ring between 8 and 8.30 in the morning as that is when they give out appointments.I was wondering about that fanjo but think if I wait until 18th it will be too long.I need antibiotics for dental work so whatever they do I will need time to get the antibiotics aswell.My main concern is that sods law it will hurt at the weekend and the emergency dental hospital is miles away and I don't drive.

It's when a part of the tooth under the gum line fractures. I knew I had done something but couldn't figure it out, but it was because the loose part was at the top, as any bits I have broken before have been at the bottom of the tooth. I had to have the fractured bit removed and built up. But that is a temporary measure, it is getting crowned in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks fimbo I have diagonally cracked it and it is above he gumline on one section.Am going to ring in the morning and insist.Everything I eat gets stuck in it and I have been constanly cleaning my teeth!

Yes, I really think you should, it could become infected if not. Let us know how you get on.
