Still not back to normal after childbirth but no one can tell me what's wrong with me!

This is really bugging me now and affecting my sex life:

Six months ago I had DD - I had quite a few stitches and these were sore for several months.

At my 6 week check I mentioned that I was still sore and that I had a heavy discharge (not bloody) and the Doctor had a look and said it looked as though my stitches weren't healing right and that the discharge might be an infection/STI - She took a swab which came back clear and referred me back to the post-natal clinic at the hospital.

At the clinic, the doctor gave me an internal examination and said that there was a skin tag which was making me sore and could be causing the heavy discharge. She took another swab (which also came back clear). After the examination I had some bleeding. She made an appointment for me to go back in 6 weeks.

In the meantime I still had this heavy discharge which meant I had to use panty liners everyday. I also experienced bleeding every time I had sex (well on the two occasions I attempted it!)

I went back for my follow-up appointment. A different doctor gave me another internal (joy!) - he said that everything looked fine and that he couldn't see any discharge (??) Again, I bled afterwards.

Then - I went for my smear test which was due. The nurse said it all looked fine and said not to worry about bleeding as it just happens sometimes (??) - I bled afterwards.

The smear test came back clear but I still have the discharge, some spotting, and bleeding after sex. This is affecting my sex life as I don't really feel like doing something that makes me bleed!!

I am very surprised my smear came back ok with all this going on!?

Does any of this some like normal post-childbirth stuff?

Does anyone think I need referring to an expert (gynaecologist ) If so, how do I go about this??

Thanks for reading if you made it this far!

Couldn't leave this unanswered..

Sorry i have this too, but gave birth 12 yrs ago! I bleed after sex,and smears too, gynae tested everything after thinking the mucusy discharge was irritating things,- all well..Second gynae did the camera thing, and froze off slight endomitriosis by cervix, discharged me back to GP..

I still have the same problem!! 3 years later!
To be honest it has completely put me off sex.
Yours' however may be birth related. Yes definitely, go back to your GP, and ask to be referred.I can't understand why they haven't already done this!!

Hopefully another MNer will give you a better answer regarding the birth related part.. Good luck!

Hmmm well I've had 5 dc's and I've never had this so wouldn't say it's normal, esp if you didn't have it before baby.

I would make another appointment with a different doctor and tell them everything above, write it down and just give it to them if that's easier, then ask to be referred to someone who knows what they are doing. Don't let them fob you off!

Must be horrible for you Sad I really hope you get it all sorted asap x

Thanks for responding you two.

I was starting to feel I was making a fuss about nothing but it's really getting me down.

I will make another appointment tomorrow.

Jellykat - thanks for sharing, it sounds exactly the same! Do people just have dodgy cervixs then?? Hope we can both get them sorted out!

Deadly- yes it does get you down, i got to the point of dreading sex mainly because i didn't understand what was going on, and thats' scary! but also getting up to go to the bathroom once he'd fallen asleep (usually about 2 minutes later), to check how bad it was, was a lonely place to be in.

I really hope your partner/DH is more understanding about how it makes you feel psychologically! My XP nagged and nagged, but he was emotionally and verbally abusive, so it was another excuse to have a go at me..

I haven't got anywhere, but really don't think it was cervical, thought it may be allergy to latex (we used Durex and it was better if we used non latex ones), then thought something to do with the vaginal wall, you name it i've eliminated it!Oh also thought it may be hormone related.. In my case i don't have to think about it now,as i'm single..

I really really hope you get a better answer then i did!And i hope your partner is lovely and realizes you're trying to sort it out, and there's nothing you can do about it in the meantime x

N.B..Found using any perfumed soaps/gels in bath/shower irritated things, also if the constant pant liner business irritates your 'bits' externally as it did me, try a non bleached brand from a healthfood shop. Smile
