Is Discharge Normal?

Can anyone help me? sorry but this is a bit embarassing! About 5 years ago I had a colposcopy (operation to have cancerous cells removed from cervix). Everything seemed to go well and although I still have to have yearly smear tests, they are continuing to be normal which is great news. The one thing I am concerned about is that I have a discharge most days. Some days it is a creamy colour and other days it is darker more yellowy. Sometimes there is no odour and other times it smells a bit. Is this normal? I don't even know if this is connected to the operation, but it is not very nice and I find things like removing my underwear in front of my partner embarassing. Does anyone else have discharges or is it something that I should go to the Doctor about?

since puberty I've always had discharge, it's gets yellower around ovulation, some days it's really heavy almost like a colourless period, other time's it's really light. Usually odourless but getting towards my period can get stronger.

The amount of underwear that was ruined when I was younger was massive, now I wear a panty liner every day, and have found bodyform do one called 2 in 1 it has the same absorbtion as a regular towel but is very discreet.

Sometimes the discharge can range from being almost watery and feel like a period flood to being really thick.

i do get thrush every month, my smears are clear and my mum was the same and so is my eldest sister so I'm not worrying I've never known any different.

p.s. I also have endometriosis and don't know if that's a contributing factor

yes of course

cervical mucous is a perfectly natural secretion

and its marvellous once you understand how it actually reflects what stage of your cycle you're at .. you can even tell when you're ovulating by the state of your cm

check out Toni Weschler's How to Take Charge of Your Fertility .. a book that should really be required reading for all women IMO

btw as a pedant I must point out that a colposcopy is an examination not an operation .. you probably had a biopsy or excision at the same time but the colposcopy is the microscope procedure (I've just had one followed by a Loop Diathermy myself )

During a typical 28 day cycle, the consistency of cervical mucus should be as follows:
Days 1-5 Menses
Days 6-9 Dry, or little to no mucus
Days 10-12 Sticky, thick mucus, becoming less thick and whiter.
Days 13-15 Egg-white mucus ò thin, elastic, slippery and clear. Indicates most fertile time.
Days 16-21 Sticky, thick mucus

I once heard of some German women who had the same as us lot, they decided to capitalise on this and started an underwear company! They charged people for the knickers that they wore each day! Put them in a Jiffy and posted them off! They all had their own houses and cars with two holidays a year by the time they were 28!
