Ooh poor you - I had what a casualty nurse friend diagnosed as a broken metatarsal a while back, v. painful! but because didn't realise what it was at the time of doing it Blush and was going through an 'I'm really tough' phase, strapped it up very tight and was doing martial arts (gingerly) on it after a fortnight. Couldn't have done anything like competition for a good couple of months or more though ... hth!

Fractures normally take a minimum of 6 weeks to heal depending on how bad the break is so taking part in a dance competition will be painful and the practising will aggravate the fracture and make it take even longer to heal. To speed up recovery you really need to rest it and keep elevated on a footstool or something as much as possible. Presumably you're being seen in the fracture clinic?

broke it yesterday, xray showed a crack cannot remember the name but its vertical down the bone IYKWIM so the bone isnt split in two.

6 wks noooooooooooooo Sad going to fracture clinic on monday urghhhh my foot is up in bed and at work but at home its really hard with my little active 20 month old

I feel really guilty but i think cbeebies may have to come into the equation Blush

Gosh it takes a lot less than a broken foot to drive us to cbeebies! Grin good luck, hope it heals quickly.

Sounds like a spiral fracture. See what they say on Monday. In a study on ballet dancers with spiral fractures of the 5th metatarsal on average it took 6 weeks to pain-free walking, 11.6 weeks to return to barre exercises and 19 weeks for return to performance. So I guess you'll be dancing again by February!

I'm just guessing however wouldn't taking some bone building supplements help?

Vitamins D3, K2, Boron, Magnesium, Calcium and Silica. Worth a try.

littlesez · 29/10/2010 20:18

oh my gosh no!!!!! february sob sob sob I am so gutted :( thanks for the link its reassuring that it is likely I will recover fully and be back dancing soon.

Ill take the supplements anyway thanks mooos

well i had my cast taken off 2 weeks ago and was walking on it fine, so decided to dance in the competition after being ok in rehearsals. Took loads of supplements and strapped it up tight. Was fine must be one of the lucky ones who could dance earlier rather than later. Grin

Going to rest it now though
