Lump in my......ear!

WingDad · 23/10/2010 01:33

Due to its location and size, I've deduced it's probably not life-threatening....But still.

It's in my ear lobe and is just basically a lump about the size of half a pea, so really not big at all; however, it's really quite painful when I touch it. And since I have a radio pressed to my ear most days at work, it's getting kind of uncomfortable.

I know it's nothing much to worry about, and yes, I am having a whinge over nothing, but any ideas on how to get it to go away?

Cheers :)

WD

Spot? Squeeze?
Hot piece of cotton wool to tempt the spot to the surface?
Or not spot at all and definitely do not try to squeeze because will probably hurt too much and not help at all?
That's no help at all is it? Sorry I'm tired, feeding my baby and trying to stay awake at the sane time!

WingDad · 23/10/2010 01:55

Haha, thanks Guacamole. I've squeezed to my heart's content and nothing comes out, it just hurts a lot more!

I contemplated getting a hot pin to poke it to see if it was actually just a build-up of puss, but we'll see....

Good luck with the baby-feeding! Most certainly do NOT miss that!

I vote for the hot pin lancing action!

KurriKurri · 23/10/2010 12:47

bathe with hot salty water, or try magnesium sulphate paste to draw any pus out. I'd leave the hot pin solution for the time being!ShockGrin

WingDad · 23/10/2010 19:37

Well, being male I got impatient so just heated a pin with my lighter and jabbed it into the lump.

No puss came out and now it's twice as painful! Oh dear Sad

Yeah, I'm a self-confessed wuss! :D Especially when it comes to little things like this, generally with more squeamish things involving blood I'm perfectly fine Hmm

I have to touch and prod, it's a habit Grin

My nipples? Careful now, some people aren't into that kinda thing :P

Well, in other news, the lump is still there, but we've kind of gained a mutual respect for each other now, it doesn't hurt as much now...it's got bigger though Hmm

Ah well, time is the best healer after all!

Go to the doctor, fgs. Could be a cyst, an infected one one that you fiddled with it.

WingDad · 24/10/2010 16:18

Na I'm good, I'll give it a week for it to go down.

Well an update for y'all (because I know how much you've all been sitting on the edges of your seats waiting anxiously on news of my ear's condition).

Well, erm, I mentioned it today to one of my field medics because it was really getting uncomfortable wearing a radio ear-piece. He looked at it, jabbed it with a finger, "Ah you big girl's blouse", produced his bayonet (note: bayonet which is designed to kill by means of prizing the victim's ribcage apart and stabbing the major organs....), heated it with his lighter and then just poked the lump. Yeah, so surgery man-style Grin Basically, it was weird, a kind of hardish whitey-yellow substance came out and then it was all fine (albeit having a stab wound in my ear now).

So feeling all happy for myself, I went on my merry way. Feeling it just a minute, I've just realised I've got another further down my lobe. Great. (This medic was trained by the SAS.....apparently Grin)

I feel repulsed, yet relieved.
