here we go !

Oh woodworm. No!!!!!

Hope it is resolved soon.

Thanks for the congrats. I a sure it is a fluke, and now i have just had some chocolate, so it won't be sustained.

As regards the pain, I still have very tender ribs under the irradiated area, and i finished rads a year ago. I don't think it came on as a new pain after a few months, but sometimes these things are there and you just don't notice them. Don't prod it, just stay aware of it, and don't worry too much.

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/12/2010 14:10

yikes about woodworm Shock
I think that the ribs do get damaged during rads (I seem to remember that it was one of the things on my consent form) and agree with what Cakes has said.
New FBS - there's a Polish shop in town,new- and it sells chocolate covered plums which I absolutely adore - they are truly fab - I have one left...

Cakesandale · 06/12/2010 14:34

Oh the temptation.... Anything with chocolate just screams 'eat me'

I am making a lamb, root vegetable and lentil casserole for dinner, and it is smelling gorgeous already. It's quite nourishing of course, but not at all slimming, especially as I plan to eat loads of it. Xmas Grin

I will never be thin...

smee · 06/12/2010 14:58

SR ribs damage/ aching is common after Rads. I have a lot of rib pain and am slightly obsessed about it. Blush
For peace of mind, if it's still there in a month, maybe go get it checked. My Onc ordered a CT scan for me last week, and it's made a huge difference to how I sleep, as the results were clear. Smile

  • woodworm sounds bad.. What do they have to do to get rid? Is it a chemical fix? Am impressed by your DS running that far tied up!

MAS, will you drive along motorways? If so do your route on the AA Routeplanner and it tells you where the service stations are. I did that for the last funeral I went to.

Sparkle did your friend say yes to coffee tomorrow? Distraction's a positive, I'd say. Will be thinking of you tomorrow afternoon.

Think I just scared the GP. He looked horrified when he saw my breast and nearly sent me back to hospital, though I talked him out of it. I have horse size antibiotics as he thinks I do have an infection. He's given me lots of simple dressings with a clear film on the wound side which won't stick. Will see how I get on.

smee · 06/12/2010 14:59

Cakes, how can that casserole by fattening?? Sounds ridiculously healthy to me.

Cakesandale · 06/12/2010 15:09

Not the way I make it Grin

Glad you have dressings and tablets, it really does sound awful. Take it easy.

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/12/2010 15:09

oh smee Shock and poor gp !

Will be on the M3,the only thing is that the services are pretty near my end of the motorway, so chances are I won't need to go when I pass them...honestly,it's a silly rthing to worry about but onew of the things I gwet anxious about...I should apply some mindfulness to it !

OP posts:
sandripples · 06/12/2010 15:19

Cakes - please send casserole up here. Have just been out to post some parcels and the temp. has dropped like a stone - absolutely perishing! And still foggy here too. Just having quorn balls here! (Though actually I've bought a couple of lamb steaks just for me!)

Thanks fpor all reassurances about the rads - that's helpful.

MAS - is there a church hall nearby? Would have loos?

Smee - glad you've got active treatment now as that sounds all pretty ghastly. I was very lucky that my District Nurse identified my rads infected boob pronto. This was the famous occasion when I said I'd put Germolene on it and both nurses looked aghast and said 'GERMOLENE!' as though I'd been putting paint-stripper on it and said never to use Germolene Grin The ABs sorted mine out quickly so go with the horse tablets I say.

KurriKurri · 06/12/2010 15:55

Glad you've got some horse pills Smee and have managed to dodge hospital Grin hopefully you'll start feeling a bit better soon. I drink actimel yogurt drinks (or similar) when I'm on AB's - helps a bit with the upset stomach SE's.

Woodworm is a pain SR, we had it in the first house we bought, I seem to remember the stuff you treat it with being very stinky (although it may be better these days.) The Santa Dash sounds great fun.Smile

Casserole sounds good Cakes (even though I don't eat meat Grin. I don't believe I will ever get thin either, I have very little will power and I'm always hungry, my only saving grace is that I do enjoy exercise, but that doesn't make up for all the FBS.

I like the sound of the Polish shop MAS, my uncle was Polish, and I loved going to visit as a child - they always had lovely things to eat, which he'd bring back when he'd been to visit his family.

I am sorting out DH's 'filing system' I've just found it in the spare room, it's a card board box with bank accounts/wage slips/ car documents etc.etc. shoved in it. - No wonder he can never find anything.

sandripples · 06/12/2010 18:16

I'm not too worried about the woodworm as we had the floors and ceilings treated when we bought the house. What they found is in some skirting boards - which were not treated and in any case are painted so the stinky fluid would not get past the paint. I've asked for new skirting boards!

Meanwhile all the front bay and adjacent walls have been half removed then a special liner material has been inserted up to height of the window sills, then a new inner wall of blocks has been built to replace the bricks taken away. All this to stop the damp coming in and staining our walls all the time. Bit of a mess at present. DH and I are campng in the middle room downstairs - have brought sofa down from DD's room. If we really want to watch TV we have to beg our DS Grin as he has another set up in his palatial bedroom.

Sorry - that's not very interesting is it! Its just rather dominant in the house!

All this cold makes me just want to hibernate AND EAT!

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/12/2010 18:18

ah yes, there is a church hall..they must have lavs.
I seem to have been sent another secret santa gift- another Amazon voucher - do you think I should return it ? have tried to ask what to do- I certainly don't deserve two treats, that's for sure
Hope your pills sort you out smee and that you're not too uncomfortable
Ds came home from school saying that he has food tech tomorrow and is making quiche- naturally I have no eggs,no extra milk or ham or butter,so have been to town...didn't cave in and buy more Polish plums.

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 07/12/2010 09:28

MAS - - I imagine you've been nominated twice if you have two sets of vouchers. Lucky you!

The church hall will have lavs, for sure. This concern of yours reminds me of an episode when I was about 20. My db is a vicar, and he used to have a parish in Birmingham. i always used to go out drinking with my mates on Christmas Eve, then to Midnight Mass. On this occasion, as db was officiating, I went drinking as usual, then went all the way over to Birmingham to his church. of course, by that time, with all that drink in me, I was DESPERATE and Midnight Mass takes ages, always. So I had to nip out when he had his back to the congregation and find a place to crouch and wee that did not seem to be anyone's grave Shock.

I went back in, and he came along the line, saying to each of us in turn 'Peace be with you. Peace be with you. Peace be with you...Caught short were you, Peace be with you, Peace be with you.......' Xmas Blush

Of course now I am far more genteel Wink

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/12/2010 10:15

am extremely lucky and a bit embarrassed...how kind MNetters are.
I always fret about going to the lav when I might not be able to - I thought I might've grown out of it but I guess not (always like to sit on the outside of rows at cinema/concerts)
Am sitting with my 7 yr old as she's off school feeling poorly -a couple of hours, then I must work !

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 07/12/2010 11:30

How lovely MAS - enjoy your vouchers Smile

Cakes Grin at your 'caught short' story, your Db sounds fun.

Really just popped on to wish Sparkles loads of luck today, lots of hand holding and love Smile xx

Cakesandale · 07/12/2010 11:34

Me too, sparkles. I have been thinking of you and will keep sending vibes until we hear back...

smee · 07/12/2010 11:39

Cakes Xmas Blush on your behalf!

MAS, I'm sitting with my 6 year old, who's similarly feeling poorly. Not getting much done here, but then maybe that's no bad thing. I think you deserve the other voucher. Go spend it on something lovely. Smile

Cakesandale · 07/12/2010 12:29

I'm also sitting with a poorly 7 year old. It is quite boring, isn't it?

smee · 07/12/2010 13:38

I know! We're just about to watch a film, so am planning a snooze. Blush

smee · 07/12/2010 13:40

Sparkles appointment must be soon. Virtual hand holding from me too xx

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/12/2010 14:27

lots of good vibes for Sparkle xxx
Back from child minding- made her some toast and then had to make myself some ! she was very coughy poor lamb.
Must do some work- am seriously behind.

ItsKurriiiistmas · 07/12/2010 15:32

It's me - just alerting you to my Christmas name (echoes of Slade - the first single I ever bought!)Grin

sandripples · 07/12/2010 17:58

Your DB sounds fun Cakes!

O dear, all these poorly children Sad

My DH has a rotten cold but I just throw him a Lemsip and let him get on with it. Grin Especially as he has grazed my car (which although nearly one, still feels new to me - my apple green Fiesta) due to everyone parking in odd places as a lot of neighbours have a very steep drive which they can't use when icy.

Yesterday I put potatoes in to bake at c 5pm.

At 6pm I went to get tea ready.

At 7pm DH asked why we had baked potatoes in the oven? I'd completely forgotten them and done something else for tea Shock Grin Chemo brain is alive and well Grin
Well today it's that lovely dish 'Twice Baked Potatoes' for tea. If you can have 'twice baked souffles' I think we can have 'twice baked potatoes'.

Waiting to hear from you Sparkles...

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/12/2010 19:00

arf SR Xmas Grin will they be quite crispy ?
Tonight we have ds's quiche, made at school.
Am furious with him as he is so utterly forgetful- 2 important letters mouldering in his bag, one about GCSE options, the other about performing at the O2 arena in feb with his NY singing group- was meant to confirm his place and send deposit last week.I find the disorganisation sooo hard as I have everything organised to within an inch of it's life (not really a good thing) - I can't beat to see the state of his bag with it's crumpled bits of paper and books- we'd have been severely reprimanded for having things in that state.... am off to meditate to calm myself.
Lovely festive name kk !
Really hope you are ok Sparkle

OP posts:
sandripples · 07/12/2010 19:17

MAS - yes the spuds were fine thanks! Not exactly crispy tho...more a bit leathery on the outside and soft inside...

I always resorted to going through my DS's bag myself. Now our school doesn't do letters home by bag any more. We get a huge mailing of as much as possible once a term, with the school magazine, plus sometimes another mailing if there's something extra during the term. Also the school puts all the important stuff on the website. So my bag searches are fruitless now!

ItsKurriiiistmas · 07/12/2010 19:26

MAS - I feel your pain, - I have been through the screwed up note in the bottom of the bag years, and the scuffed text books etc. Does he lose stuff too?, - my DS was terribly for that.

SR - I quite like a leathery skinned baked potato, nice and chewy.

Hoping Sparkles is OK tonight.
