do you mean cerazette?

OnceUponA · 20/10/2010 09:10

cerazette is the most hellish thing in the world Grin
I really wouldn't bother with it if there were any other option- some people it doesn't affect at all but everyone whom I have met has been badly affected by it.

First off, I had a 28 day period. Then no period for the year I was on it.

I put on 3 stone while on it and I know it was down to the pill because I have always eated like a fat cow and never been more than a size 10- suddenly ballooned up to a size 16 (not a good look for my particular height). When I came off the pill I actually managed to start losing the weight.

Also it made me terribly depressed and I wish I had realised the cause of it sooner and I would have stopped taking that demon pill there and then. Urgh!

OnceUponA · 20/10/2010 09:10

eated? eaten

Seona1973 · 20/10/2010 10:27

I have been on it for over 2 years and have not bled on it at all (apart from an occasional couple of days of spotting). I havent had any other problems with it.

Earthdog · 20/10/2010 13:40

I was most upset when I was taken off Microgynon and onto this mini pill over 3 months ago. However, so far, after an initial bleed & headaches for a week it has stopped my cycle which is great and I feel fine. The only downside is that my skin is worse than usual (and it's usually pretty bad!) so hoping it will settle down. I am suspicious my hair is coming out more than usual but I think it was mainly something else that caused that, so I will wait and see.. I was thinking of trying Implanon early next year but so far so good with Cerazette. It is also supposed to be 99.7% effective.

choclab · 20/10/2010 16:05

Hmm god think i may not bother ....sounds awful ..

been given to try as not sure about the marina ..as heard so many bad things bout that so nurse recommended i try this as same hormone and can be more in control , if i dont like i can just stop ..

have never been on pill before ...had copper coil , but as im heading 40 and periods very heavy said its not advisable i have another one ..so this is where im at ....

the whole thing is freaking me out ...

thanks for info though ...

I am 40 too and I think Cerazette/progesterone is more likely to stop your cycle as you get older, which is obviously a bonus...maybe consider Implanon too..good luck anyway.

Ghoulberry · 20/10/2010 17:24

It gave me acne and panic attacks!

PirateScaredyCat · 20/10/2010 17:29

it doesn't affect everyone in a bad way. i ahve had 2 yrs on it and no periods. then i came off it, then i went back on it and messed my cycle up a bit, and i had lots of days of bleeding.

I went back to my gp and she has given me microgynon, but I had another pack of cerazette so i thought i'd finish them. Guess what no bleeding lol, so i am going to go back to the gp again and say actually it all seems back to normal now.

I'd give them a go tbh, and see how you fare.

hildathebuilder · 20/10/2010 17:34

I've been on it for 6 months. No side effects at all.

choclab · 20/10/2010 18:09

thanks , got 2 weeks till period starts to have a think , i must say the no period thing would be a real bonus ...

what about weight gain ?

snowmash · 20/10/2010 19:18

Doesn't give me side-effects...and doesn't have the effect I want (dealing with heavy/painful periods).

IMHO worth a try if you're not sure about more l/t options, particularly if you don't know how you react to the hormone.

FWIW I'm going down the Mirena route (in a month's time), but that was after much discussion (and having been on the depo injection), finding the GP in my practice who does them all (otherwise I'd be down the FP clinic), knowing the exact procedure they use (right down to them using anaesthetic gel), and knowing that they will do a gynae referral if it proves impossible (but I'd rather avoid another general anaesthetic).

Panzee · 20/10/2010 19:19

I've been on it a year. No periods, no other problems.

sobloodystupid · 20/10/2010 19:25

Was prescribed this as am bfing, haven't started it yet though. Stupidly, I thought it was the "same" as other pills ie Cilest and that I would have a period every 28 days. Should really open packet and read instructions I spose Grin

2plus2 · 20/10/2010 21:01

Have been on it a couple of years, Did have a bit of spotting to start with, now take two pills each day and spotting has now stopped. Had horrible heavy periods, now none, bliss.Smile

PirateScaredyCat · 22/10/2010 12:05

after saying all is now well with my cycle, i came on this morning.

grrrrrrrr.

PirateScaredyCat · 22/10/2010 12:06

2plus2, i have read about some women taking 2 a day. did your gp suggest this as a solution for you?

colditz · 22/10/2010 12:11

cerazette turnined me into a bad tempered weepy paraniod nutter for about 3 weeks.

Then I levelled out and I am normal. period wise, I get occasional spotting but dn't really have periods.

Skin greasier than normal but cileste was giving me chronic eczema, so more grease not such a bad thing.

Northumberlandlass · 22/10/2010 13:18

Ladies, this must be fate ! I was just coming on here to ask about Cerazette.

Just taken the first pill this morning (perscribed to conquer my revolting peri-menopausal periods) and I was wondering how quickly I would notice any side effects. Anyone have any words of wisdom ?

Doc was very keen for me to get the mirena coil, but after googling it (I know I shouldn't) I decided to give Cerazette a go first. He has only given me 3 months worth, to see how it suits me.
