Endodometriosis - what next?

Just seen my Doctor and he is referring me to Gynae. What's next? A Laparoscopy for sure? The pain at the moment is terrible, periods so long and heavy and pain radiating down my right leg constantly.

Any advice/stories gratefully received please - I have a feeling this is the start of a long journey...

www.endometriosis-uk.org is a good website for you to look at.

All that you state is likely due to endo.
The pain radiating down your right leg too is likely due to the pressure on the sciatic nerve (you have my sympathies indeed as I used to get that and it could drive me to distraction, I have endo as well).

Ask the gynae outright how much experience he has had in treating endo patients; you ideally need an experienced gynae with up to date knowledge and experience in treating such women. If you do have a lap operation (this is the usual way it is diagnosed, try to ensure you don't just have a diagnostic lap) again ensure that they surgeon has vast experience. Ask lots of questions of these people, read up on endometriosis yourself as knowledge is power (also it helps you make treatment decisions) and do not be fobbed off!.
