I still have to have more blood tests done and change some medication but I have fibromyalgia. I am pretty upset though relieved that I have not imagined the symptoms. I guess a day of googling is in order to see how I can manage the symptoms.

Sorry to hear that Phipps. I don't know much about fibromyalgia. I hope you can find a support association out there on the internet. Or here on MN. x

phipps · 15/10/2010 14:01

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis phipps. You're right though - it's better to know and not think you were imagining it.

phipps · 15/10/2010 14:08

Thank you luciemule. I've bookmarked it as I can't concentrate atm to take it all in.

I just want to go to bed. I just don't know what to do. 2 doctors are telling me my thyroid is fine. A friend who has had thyroid cancer says it isn't. Would go privately to have more blood tests but what would the point be if the results are still in the normal range.

The consultant said I am middle aged (I am 38) and need to eat less as I get older.

scrambled eggs for breakfast
salad or soup of lunch
cooked meal with veg at night.

Don't drink, don't eat chocolate or crisps anymore, or junk food.

GP won't. He insists my thyroid is fine.

I am just too tired to think what to do next.

I understand now. I have felt like this for more than 3 years. I have put on 2 stone without realising too. I need to get myself together to go and get the children from school. Thank you all for your kindness.

Hi, the pares? you mentioned could be paraesthesia - pins and needles. Is it on the symptoms bit of the form?

Think bone prof is bone profile.

phipps · 15/10/2010 16:03

It is underneath where the consultant has put fibromyalgia. I don't have pins and needles in my fingers, it is a weird feeling I can't describe.

I guess the bone profile is being done to rule out arthritis.

Hi phipps

I have fibro too, am 28 and had it for 10 years. I have 2 young children and work part time and am a single mum - so it is possible to have a life with it Grin

I found acupuncture wonderful.I had it through my last pregnancy and after, and it really helps. I tend to need a course every 18-24 months to keep on top of it all.

I'm in SE too. The local physio department to me did used to do acupunture on NHS, as did my old doctors but not sure now. I tend to go private now.

phipps · 15/10/2010 16:21

I have to see a physio too but not sure why.

I would be careful with the TPA.

They are a long way from the medical concensus on Fibromyalgia and Thyroid disease.

A better starting point I think would be the NHS website.

Crazycow00slevin · 15/10/2010 17:34

My DH has myofascial pain syndrome and found this book had some useful ideas. The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Clair Davies.

My DH says "it teaches you about the muscles of the body, what they do and how to treat them yourself using massage techniques, many of which need a special massage device called a Thera Cane. I'm quite academically minded so found it a good read, and sometimes when the pain wakes me up in the night I can use the cane quickly and then get straight back to sleep again. It's written with Fibromyalgia and Myofascial Pain Syndrome in mind".

Hope that helps and our good wishes go out to you. Smile

There doesn't seem to be very much science or evidence behind the thera cane.

Lots of pseudo-scientific terminology though, a disquieting sign.
