Hi spod, I was started on pregablin in February, but I didn't like it because my hormones went haywire and I got very tearful, so 6 weeks later I was put on gabapentin. I'm on 6oomg three times aday. I have a very painful back, but I was put on the gabapentin for diabetic neuropathy. A very painful condition where the nerves in your legs burn like hell......I have had this for over 6 months. But I'm on morphine plasters, voltarol, paracetamol, citalopram(antidepressant), zoton(protects the stomach) domperidone(anti-sickness)and on occasion tramadol. But even with all this medication, I'm still in pain, so I don't really know if the Gabapentin really works...Sorry for going on and on.......

Hi spod, yes I agree with you, back pain is one of the worse things to put up with, I've finally been sent an appointment for Monday for physio, 6 months after I first asked for it........The pregabalin just changed me altogether, I felt anxious, tearful, it didn't feel like me at all.. so I went back to the doctor who changed me to the gabapentin, I've had no trouble with it so far. But about all the medication I'm on, I think my body is getting used to it now. Take care...

Hi spod, no-ones sure what the cause is, but I've had three c-sections.and I've had very heavy babies because of my diabetes, it could be any of these things. I just wish they could find a wonder cure, and get rid of it once and for all.....

Spod, my dh takes gabapentin, 1800mg in total per day. The upper limit is 2400mg per day. He's been told if the gabapentin doesn't do too much to help his chronic pain, he can try pregablin instead.

Hard to say how effective it is as he is also on shedloads of other painkillers and things (liquid morphine, fentanyl, amitriptyline, and dear old paracetomol for good measure). He has been upping the gabapentin of late though (at doc's advice, not in random fashion!) as the opiate-based drugs don't seem to be helping too much. Seems to be helping a little.

This comment is probably completely irrelevant to you, as dh has fibromyalgia, completely different from your condition, but he's really noticed some benefit from acupuncture. Don't know if you've given it a try? Obviously not as a replacement for medication, but to work alongside it.

Hmm, spod, has fibro been ruled out for you? I guess maybe the pain is too localised, i.e. all in the back, because otherwise the symptoms sound similar. Possibly acupuncture could be worth considering given you don't want to up your meds, but not sure what the 'rules' are about acupuncture and pregnancy.

Best of luck ttc!
