Help, I've knackered my back and can't move (much)

This is going to sound so stupid, but yesterday I woke up with pain in my neck, top of shoulders, like I had slept funny.

It stayed around all day, I ignored it mainly.

Last night I found I couldn't lie on my side, or really on my back, with a pillow, without a pillow, and when I tried to turn over the pain was so bad it woke me up. I thought I might be sick or pass out but thankfully that's passed now I'm sitting still.

The whole of my upper back and neck is really sore, I can walk around but I can't look down or to the sides, I've been up since 5 and awake for much longer.

NHS direct said put a heat pack on it so I did for a minute but it felt suffocating and made me feel worse.

I have never had back pain before, I do have weak bones but again haven't ever broken any. Driving was hard enough yesterday so I don't think I will go near it today.

Any ideas or experience welcome, please tell me what this is and what to do!

Thankyou.

Sorry to bump - sitting here in total agony, no idea how I'll get the children to school!

The Drs doesn't take calls till 8.30, school is 8.45 and preschool is at 9 - should I wander very slowly down to the drs after that? I don't know if they do emergency appts at all.

We're planning to go out at 7.45 to walk really slowly to school - I daren't drive, barely managed to get dressed!

Thanks if anyone has any ideas. It doesn't seem to be getting any better.

Oh you poor thing.

Can you take painkillers? Paracetamol and ibuprofen can be taken together.

Or co-codamol instead of the paracetamol.

Get friend to collect kids? Though I am sure you have thought of that.

Doctors are usually rubbish with back stuff.

See ho it is in 3 days - if no better then find a good physio/osteo in your area.

Could try alternating heat with cold (ice pack or peas, etc).

Poor you.

Thanks Nicky! I've not got anyone to ask so will have to get Ds1 a taxi or just walk! Hoping it is just muscular, no idea though what it is.

I'm just out of ibuprofen but will try and get some on the way home. There is apparently a private physio near here, I rang my mum and she said 'have you got 40 quid?' Smile so if GP no use i might try that.

I'm so worried about how to manage the practical stuff, if I can't drive.

Hopefully the worst of it will be past soon.

I hope so too - it seems to be getting worse though!

would I get away with going to Minor Injuries? It's not too far, in the other direction. Don't want to be a timewaster though, it's just I can barely move at all. Would they be able to tell if it's a disc or something?

Okay have made it to school and preschool, hurting all the way but we did it!

I called in at the surgery and have got an appt at 10.40. Hooray.

i'm beginning to lose the feeling in my right hand though which is a bit scary.

Sorry to keep rattling on on my own thread but I feel better that it's written down, there's nobody here and at school I had to fend off our creepy caretaker as he tried to give me a 'massage' Hmm

,sob>

If you are losing feeling, def needs attention.

Hope it was a helpful appointment.

Thanks Nicky, she was nice - had a good feel and prod and so on. She reckons it's a sprained neck of all the ridiculous things to have, but at least it's probably muscular and not a nerve or disc or whatever.

No idea how I did it...

have sent a cab for ds1 at school, can't face another walk! She also wants to do a bone density scan as I have osteoporosis. Hopefully it's not connected though..

Thanks again for listening this morning, it really helped x
