my stitches are falling out

really hope this is the right place to post!

i had a baby 5 weeks ago, had a pretty awful tear (almost back to anus) and my mw spent a good couple of hours repairing me

due to an infection (discovered because of the amount of pain i was in), i'm now on my third course of anti-biotics

my question is...is it correct/ok that my stitches seem to now be falling out? they're very visible on the tissue when I wipe

thanks in advance for any words of wisdom

and yes, I have name changed!

Around four or five weeks my stitches actually seemed to come out when I wiped. Not sure if that was right or normal as still a slight bit of bleeding from my stitch area occasionally.

I had a second degree tear.

hmm, i'm still bleeding as well

thanks for your post Helen

Were they dissolvable stitches?
When this happened to me I got the GP to check me out who said it was healing fine and the stitches were designed to dissolve and fall out as the skin healed up.

It was well before 5 weeks this happened too.
I would advise going to GP for a check up.

It's completely normal for the stitches to start coming out at this stage, as they use dissolvable stitches to repair tears and episiotomies. Apparently the stitches that they use to repair any damage to the sphincter are much longer lasting and can remain in situ for quite some time before finally dissolving. I only know this as my GP discovered one still lingering in my scar tissue last summer when DD was 3.5 years old!

they were dissolvable, yes. so it sounds like i'm actually healing if they're starting to fall out? i'm seeing GP in a few days anyway to get the infection looked at again. just wanted to ask on here because i was a bit freaked about seeing the stitches!

3.5 years later?? good grief!

thanks all
