Hi all,

My 4 week old has started with cold symptoms and has slept for the majority of the day. However she has been up crying now for the past 2 hours and is very uncomfortable, sneezing and she is very chesty.

We're seeing the doctor tomorrow morning but has anyone got any tips for releaving her symptoms as she is too young for Calpol or anything.

x

take her into the bathroom with you and run the shower so the room gets steamy.
A tissue with one drop of olbass oil on is good to pop in the cot and raise the head of the cot up on books to help with breathing.
I also found a walk in the fresh air with DD all wrapped up nice and cosy helped him no end.
Hope she is better soon

Those sucky things for sticking up their noses are great, sound bad but works. Also nasal drops (saline) good.

Open windows, plenty of freshair, prop up cot. Olbus oil (not sure if ok?)

Not sure where GP can do anything really apart from checking chest is ok. I know they can get broncolitus which is when their tubes get tight. If baby is feeding ok then thats a good sign.

Both my boys never had colds till they were much older so I can sympathise.

nasal aspirators work really well and you can buy them from chemists, and also saline nose drops. I also used to put some olbas oil or karvol onto a muslin and tie it around the cot bars (out of baby's reach obviously!)

Moisture really helps too, so a steamy bathroom (you need to be really careful baby doesn't overheat), and put bowls of water on your radiators.

Hope the doctor was able to help, although I guess he/she wasn't able to do much! Smile
