Can IBS make you feel this unwell for this long??

I've had mild IBS symptoms on and off for a couple of years. Never officially diagnosed but Dr said that was likely the cause of symptoms.

Anyway for the last month I've really been sufferring, lots of indigestion, constant uncomfortable stomach that ranges from mild discomfort to quite severe aching aswell as sometimes cramping. The pain isn't particularly in one place and on top of that I've got back ache and feel absolutely knackered all the time.

I've got a Dr's appointment on wednesday but am getting a bit worried now that it could be something more serious as it's gone on for so long.

If anyone else has IBS do you ever get long periods of feeling like shite??

Thank madonna I've just made myself my first cup of peppermint tea - can't say it's an enjoyable beverage though!

Hope you have some success with your doctor

Connor,

I think it's off as well.

Sometimes I come out of the doctors and think that didn't go how I imagined it would!

Luckily when my DS2 was poorly the doctor's mother has coeliac disease so I didn't have to coerce her into testing for it.

Glad you've booked an appointment.
I would definitely go armed with a list of all things mentioned and discuss thoroughly and get him to rule them all out.

SanctiMoanyArse is right keep shouting. If everything gets ruled out and it is IBS you should at least get some help managing your symptoms.

Keeping fingers crossed for you.

Thanks Booner Dr also did that annoying thing whereby they say "and what do you think might be wrong with you?" I always feel like they are trying to catch me out or something!

Bloody Doc! you should not be waiting any longer - continuous symptoms need to be addressed sooner rather than later. Can you not go back sooner and see a different gp this time? Peppermint tea isn't going to be as effective as peppermint oil capsules, either.

SMA isn't really being that scary - her bro might be an extreme example of UC but it has to be ruled out when you have symptoms as long and continously as you have.

I would cut out all dairy products and see how you get on

I could book into see someone else but I imagine they'll look at my notes and be Hmm that I haven't gone away and done as i'm told!

I got some peppermint capsules today as the tea is foul. I think if I'm still in the same condition after the weekend I'll go back. Sod this for another three weeks.

CT - even if they look at your notes and see what you've been told, if they're a better GP than the last one, they won't abide by it, they'll go "you've had this how long? ok, let's do some tests now and see what's going on". Always go back for a second opinion if you feel the first one isn't right for you - another GP might know more about it.

Thanks Thumbwitch I will see how I feel over the weekend and go back monday if there is no improvement
