Do men take sick leave for vasectomies?

DH keeps talking about saving his AL for when he gets his vasectomy appt, but I'm sure it'll be sick leave. Can someone confirm? And possibly even direct me to some info online which I can show to DH?

I don't know, but I have to say that as it is a voluntary op for your own convenience (like, say, a nose job) I'd be a bit Hmm if a colleague of mine took time off for that reason.

I've worked with men who've taken sick leave for vasectomies. I can't see the problem with it.

Northernlurker · 30/09/2010 19:48

Any absence due to any elective operation can be taken as sick leave. Your dh may prefer to use annula leave but he doesn't have to because he will perhaps be medically unfit to work. My dh should have taken a day or two off sick after his but he soldiered on because he felt it was all his own fault as it were - you wouoldn't do that after a hernia op though would you?

What does he do? Unless he's in a manual job I don't think he'll need more than a day or two. DH took 4 days off I think and he was a builder at the time. It hurt A LOT for about the first 48 hrs and then eased quite quickly.

the dr signed my dh off for 2 days for his. he needed that.i guess it depends what kind of job you do as well.

I'm really mean then, aren't I?! Grin

Thanks, all. I guess we just wait to hear from the dr then Smile

DH had his done on Sat morning and was back at work ( non manual work) on Monday

weegiemum · 01/10/2010 09:13

My dh had his done on a wed, had thurs and fri off and was back at work on the Monday following.

He's a doctor!

Can't see the problem with taking sick leave. He'll be back sooner than if it was paternity leave. WinkGrin

DH is a freelancer, and took one day off after his. He doesn't get annual leave though, but suspect he would have used holiday.

He has an office job, so was fine to sit at his desk. Was told to keep feet up for two days though. I had to drive him to work as the bike was a no go area!

BorgQueen · 01/10/2010 11:56

DH took annual for the actual OP but then had to have a week off sick due to swelling and infection, his GP reckoned all men need a week off, whatever their job.
