Cellulitis on the face: anyone had it?

My dd1 is suffering an attack of cellulitis on her face, and is in hospital getting IV antibiotics which seem to be working slowly. She has a red, puffy face and nasty yellow crusty bits all over, and looks unrecognisable. She is 21 and she's scared she won't go back to her normal self....she's been told it's a skin infection, and when it goes, it will disappear and her skin will return to what it was with no long-term effects. She's worried they are just trying to be kind to her, and I'd love to be able to reassure her that it's true. Thanks!

Oh, I had this. It was awful. Luckily I didn't have to have the IV antibiotics.. so sorry for your daughter.

Yes, it'll go back to normal. After the swelling goes down and it's begun to heal it'll peel horribly, though. When she's out of the hospital and her face is healing, then start working on helping it. Gently exfoliate when it's possible to do that without exposing the raw skin and slather on the moisturizer. For the exfoliating, I used a washcloth with a mild face cleanser and then the Jurlique Day Cream. Don't scrub or it'll hurt. Be sure to try a small patch of skin first to make sure whatever she's using doesn't sting-- even her normal stuff might be irritating. It took a few days, if I remember correctly, for the antibiotics to kick in, then they have to do their job.

It took me a week or two to look normal again (after the antibiotics started working) and it sounds like she's got it worse. I don't mean for that to be depressing, just to say hang in there, it'll get better. When it finally does, it really helps to splurge on some new makeup.

If anyone's been keeping track, we've been quite sick this year! Usually we're much healthier.

Thanks, Jj. This was reassuring. She is a lot better today, and expects to be discharged from hospital tomorrow.

Yes I also had it and my skin went back to normal. Poor girl. Tell her to try not to pick at her face. I ended up in hospital with it as well. I believe I got it from the door handle of a toilet in work as I remember touching my nose. I didn't have any other insect bites or scratches.
