You could maybe phone them first, or your surgery/out of hours doctor?

GrimmaTheNome · 28/09/2010 17:15

I think so.

Good luck.

Go to a&e sometimes stones can cause nasty infections also will traumatise the lining of the nose which can cause problems with breathing.

Good luck

My ds did this last week. Twas a massive stone. My uncle was very calm and got it out with some tweezers. I wouldn't have been able to do this- would've been scared of pushing it in further

Don't try to get it out if yr not comfortable with doing so. Just go to a and e/ minor injuries walk in

DD1 had a stone up her nose when she was 2. We had taken her to the doctor's as she was snotty from one nostril. He peered up and saw the culprit. She was booked in to the hospital as a day patient. Because she was so young she had to have a GA, otherwise the Dr said that he had the instruments to extract it in the surgery... (squeamish icon). I don't think I would try extracing myself as herjazz says, you could push it further.

Hope your DD is not in too much discomfort. I think that GPs and A and E are quite used to seeing objects up noses........

Apparently my brother stuck a bead up his nose. My dad made him sneeze with pepper and it came out.

sapphireblue · 28/09/2010 17:29

what you need is a particularly violent sneeze......managed to get play doh out of my DDs nose like that. Can you wave some pepper under her nose? Trying to think what else could induce a sneeze.......do some dusting? Play with flour in the kitchen?

Ishtar2410 · 28/09/2010 17:30

DD did this a couple of years ago. We got it out with tweezers... The important thing to remember is to pinch the nose above the stone to stop it going in further.

She complained a bit, but I think she was more scared of what she'd done than how it was removed IYSWIM.

Good luck, whether it's A&E or a DIY job!

InVinoFerretsAss · 28/09/2010 17:33

My DD stuck those foam packing blobs up her nose once, and she was about 4!! Blush One neatly stuffed up each nostril!

I used tweezers to pull them out but with a stone you are probably more likely to push it further in.

Pepper? Perfume? Hairspray? A good sneeze is definitely needed!!

cazzybabs · 28/09/2010 17:35

I am not going to diy it.. it is big and her nose is bleeding and it is already quite far up...

Ds once managed to get a huge ball of wallpaper up his nose. I had no idea until he sneezed and it came out. Gross!

A&E's your best bet.

WriterofDreams · 28/09/2010 17:42

Yup definitely. My doctor friend said that 99% of her time on paediatric rotation was spent pulling things out of children's noses :o
They'd get literally 10 a day. They'll be quite happy to help.

cazzybabs · 28/09/2010 18:02

our friend is a consultant there...fingers crossed he's not on duty..I have sent dh off armed with books etc...so i guess I see them in a few hours then..I'll be back to update

Reminds me of a friend whose DD did this. On the day that friend was due to travel to a spa hotel for a one night away treat. Went to buy a couple of magazines to take and gave her DD some raisins to eat in car. Got home and realised what had happened. Tried everything to get it out. Failed. Taxi was booked to take her on her trip. Delayed taxi. Rushed to hosp. Filled in all paperwork. Finally got in to see doc. DD sneezed and raisin shot out and onto doc's desk!!!

strandedatsea · 28/09/2010 19:19

oh dear cazzy - glad it's out, can't believe you've got away this long without going to a and e though Grin
