Do you report a 'normal' vaccination side-effect?

DS had his 3rd 5in1 on Monday. Tues had high temp, swollen leg. Face was also swollen, but he has been teething. Everything seems to be back to normal today. face still a teeny bit swollen, leg red but not hot.

I understand this is all normal, but should it still go on his medical record do you think?

if i remember rightly from training i have done- all side effects/adverse reactions from medication /vaccination that children have should be reported, even if it is known that this side effect can occur.

Different with adults but only as in, you dont have to report known side effects that occur. however if u have a bad reaction it should be reported to the GP .

policy may be different in different areas though.

imho- if there is a reaction let ur GP know - at least its on the medical records then for future reference.

yes all moderately severe reactions should be reported using the yellow card scheme. Unfortunately doctors aren't very good about doing it - reports tend to be high for a new product then tail off as they don't think its worth the bother. On a more personal basis if he needs any other vaccinations they may offer the opportunity to have it done in hospital, just to reassure you.

ha ha ha - I'll let you know what the GP says to a yellow card request!
