I'm currently in my local hospital with a fractured hip but when have asked for painkillers it's at least hr more often 2 before get any was 3 hrs yesterday evening

I have been being suck since yesterday morning on and of only needing the toilet once in over 36 hrs not needed to go in over 24 hrs

I had to flag it up to the nurse even though they all aware been vomiting because from my understanding it's not good

I'm just not sire what to do to say I'm unimpressed is undetstament sick bowls don't even get emptied or thrown away had the same bowl with sick in for last few hrs

sorry to hear that. As it's a weekend, there won't be as many nurse managers on duty. There should be an advanced nurse practitioner on duty or failing that a clinical site manager. Ask to speak to the nurse in charge on your ward and then ask them to get hold of the ANP or CSM for you. They are senior nurses and do have some clout. Then tomorrow, ask to speak to someone from PALS who will be able to make sure things are on track.

RE the painkillers, ask if they have been prescribed to be given at regular intervals or when you ask for them - or a combination of both. That will help you to know what's going on re that. If you're taking oral apinkillers, being sick may be hampering their effectiveness - ask to speak to a dr about that. Good luck & hope you get better soon.

oh dear.complain to ward manager.try give dates, times, be v specific and factual about events.avoid over personalising it

ask for name of service manager. do complain.written or verbally

you can complain via pals

hospital is scary enough without additional stress

roundthebend4 · 26/09/2010 13:22

I'm meant to be on regular orals but there not regular iykWim infact know from drug chart that some ended so late they can't give as next due

the morphine is as required but that can be 3 hr wait

I don't want to cause a fuss And aware that I'm going to be stuck in here few more days at least but worried about not keeping fluids down have dry mouth lips etc and just shocked that they had not flagged it up

theyarked cannula site checked no one has even looked at it as morphine is im as no iv morphine on ward .

sorry RTB4 I don't mean to sound unsympathetic but how do you expect anything to change unless you make a bit of a fuss?

scottishmummy · 26/09/2010 18:52

cant someone advocate for you if you are too reticent.

deepbreath · 27/09/2010 15:52

Hi RTB4 I would complain - my SIL recently had a scheduled hip replacement op, and was told beforehand that she would be on a morphine drip afterwards. The op took place on a Friday, and it seems that they "forgot" all about any pain relief for her.

BIL had to practically chase the nursing staff down because SIL was in agony for over a day, and they eventually rolled up with a couple of paracetamol. I imagine that you are in similar levels of pain Sad

I find it very worrying, what if you were unable to communicate for whatever reason? Do people just get completely ignored then?

brimfull · 27/09/2010 15:58

do you ring your buzzer?
keep ringing it until you get your pain killer
if you only ask the once you are bound to wait as they prob forgot
not excusing them but it does happen
if you are constantly ringing then ignore me

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 27/09/2010 16:05

are you in hospital L??

lilyliz · 27/09/2010 18:30

really feel for you there is nothing worse than being ignored in hosp but keep bugging them and let them know that you know the times of your meds and shout if nthey are not given on time ,also say to doc when on ward round that might embarrass them into action.Take it it's a nurses station they can all gather round for a natter about their private lives, worst idea ever brought out.

roundthebend4 · 27/09/2010 18:33

Max it's more that I have asked but some of the staff attitude to the buzzer was horrendus think it's more aware that I'm relying on them and Its the balancing act

and truth was feeling far to rotten to kick up a fuss which is unlike me

But better staff on so had some decent painkillers and been able to get things straightned out have MRI scan tomorrow to look at tissue damage

Lisa not in L am in PAH as nearest A&E.

bloody hell, didn't realise you were so badly hurt rtb. glad the doc has been more helpful, hopefully he will get the nurses to be a touch more attentive.

roundthebend4 · 28/09/2010 05:48
