Just noticed this thread despite having been a fairly regular mumsnet visitor for a few months . Have decided it must be fate and wonder can I join the stopping smoking gang please
You all have mentioned the way you feel as smokers and I share them all.
I want to stop.
I disappear on the balcony to have one and moan if the kids come interrupting my time.
I've smoked stubs from the ashtray if I've run out and can't go to the shop (HOW DISGUSTING IS THAT)
I'm worrying more and more about the health implications and then when I'm really in a panic I run out for a fag to calm me down.
I decide to stop, so spend the money for that days fags on a glossy magazine as a treat, then later go and buy the fags anyway so I can smoke while I'm reading the mag that night.
I'm not surrounded by smokers. DH gave up some years ago and is the most unpreachy ex-smoker I know. He'd love me to stop but says it has to be my decision. Very few friends smoke. I rarely go to the pub at the moment.
My weakness is the first one in a morning with a cup of tea.

Right enough. I have one ciggie left in the packet which I will smoke tonight. I will then throw away the jamjar ashtray so not tempted by butts in the morning.
Can we keep this thread going for a bit of mutual support?
Well done to everyone of you thats done it already and keep trying to those who're still feeling a bit wobbly
Speak to you soon!

Hi Posey, good luck on your attempt tommorow! When you body starts to crave nicotine, try not to let the monster gets to you too much and i recommend allen carrs book for the mental thing, you can get it from the library i expect.
Patches are cheaper on ebay if you go down that line ......good luck and i too would like to keep this thread moving. I even sing i dont smoke songs while im hoovering( so noone can hear me) to keep my motivation up!
Its a good thing that you want to stop and it should be that litlle bit easier since your not surrounded by smokers. Good luck

Thanks for that Charliecat!
I'll sign in tomorrow evening to let you know how day 1 went. Must be mad choosing a day when there's no school and dh is at work. Mind you I could find excuse after excuse, lets just do it.
Just realised too that tomorrow is the 14th anniversary of my and dh's first date. Definitely a good omen.
