can you demand an x-ray?

i went to the hospital this morning because i have something wrong with my hand. i knocked it last week and it is really hurting. it feels like something is fractured or cracked. i waited 1 hour to see the doctor and when i said i knocked it he said the bit of my hand that hurts can 'only be damaged by a hard punch or something like that, not a toy falling on it'
i thought this was really patronising and out of order. he said there isn't any point in x-raying it and sent me home and said take an asprin.
i knocked the palm of my hand on the pushchair not even hard but i have been in total agony for the past hour since i did it. ive got shooting pains up my hand and i can hardly move my hand at all now so i must of knocked something that is already damaged.
Im going to go back up the hospital later when dp is home and ds is in bed but can i demand an x-ray?
i really want one just to put my mind at rest. and i hope there is something broken so that i can do the doctor for neglegence!!

Not sure - although you can ask for a second opinion - does it feel like you've done some nerve damage?

not sure what nerve damage would feel like. i just know that there is something wrong

whiich bit of your hand is it? And yes if it is that sore do go back again saying its unbearbale and if needed ham it up a bit...

did you give them details of the injury? do you have a cut in the skin?

if you do you could tell them you injured it on something glass and they would have to xray it to check for bits of glass that may still be in your hand

but i suspect if you go back a 2nd time, they will xray it

its just above my rist that hurts and its swollen and down the side where my little finger is its sore. i cant make a tight fist and i cant move my hand up and down without it really hurting.

they are right when they said its the perfect punch injury - ive seen loads of them

but they are wrong to assume everything is fine

hands are very important and should be xrayed

yeah il go back this evening and il let you know what they say

went back to a & e and told them i wanted an xray. still wouldnt give me one and they said no doctor here would give me one cos its not breakage symptoms. they said its bruised tendans and should heal in 3 weeks. its been 1 week already so if its not better in 2 more weeks i will go private on my dad's health insurance and get it xrayed. if there is something wrong i will sue!!
