Hi all, in the past year or so since I've come off the pill, I've noticed that I get increasing problems with bloating, particularly in the latter half of my cycle around ovulation and before my period. It was always normal for me to get some bloating / PMT before my period but it's now starting around ovulation as well and lasting longer.
The bloating seems more like fluid retention or flabbiness in my upper abdomen rather than in the area of my womb/ovaries so although I'm associating this with having come off the pill (since it's got worse since then), I'm wondering if there is anything else that could be causing this. I was diagnosed coeliac 10 years ago so I know what that kind of GI type bloating is like, as I used to get it very bad before being diagnosed) and it's not down in the lower abdomen where the intestine is but up higher where my stomach is. That's what I find so strange because most bloating problems that I can think of would be linked to womb/ovaries or GI issues and so would be swelling in the lower abdomen not up higher. I'm at a loss to think what this could be. It can't be plain old weight gain either because it fluctuates considerably. I have fat days where I look like a middle-aged man with a spare tyre and other days when I look fine. Generally I'm a size 8 or 10 so I'm not overweight.
My diet is healthy enough as I'm TTC anyway so don't smoke, drink to excess, drink caffeine or take any drugs and I eat as healthily as I know how (fresh fruit, salads, only eat meat about twice a week, drink lots of water, at least 1L per day). Any ideas? Am loathe to go to GP as I have had lots of health issues over the past year (menstrual cycle, miscarriage and recurring cystitis) and am fed up with being fobbed off. I did go for acupuncture earlier in the year to help with conception and it did ease the bloating a bit but it's a bit expensive to keep up long-term.
