Knee injury -ow

Bugger. Have hurt my knee in karate session. Not sure how - no agonising pain when I did it or anything. Now it's generally ok to walk on, but if I bend it a certain way I get a stabbing pain. I can't quite identify what movements cause the pain.

Should I go to GP? A&E? Physio? Or wait a few days and see what happens?

I'd like to know what I've done, so I know how long the recovery time is likely to be.

You will have a ligament sprain or a cartilage (meniscus) tear most likely. As a chiropractor I send these injuries off to our physio who does the best job. He sends them back to me if that doesn't work, which it usually does.

You could go to the GP, get some pain control and wait for an NHS physio referral which can take weeks of even months. It is best to get therapy quickly to avoid chronicity. If you can, go and see a private physio, preferably by recommendation or a private sports injury doctor who are usually brilliant.

Thanks GreenPartridge. In fact yesterday I went to a private physio I've used before, and she stressed my knee in all kind of ways, and was unable to replicate the pain (which has worn off alot).

She said there was no major damage, and I could go back to sport. So I am happy.
