Hi,
is anybody having issues with chronic colds and/or frequent sinuses infections? If so, how do you deal with it?

Greetings,

Arabela

Arabela, I went through a spell of always having colds or sinus infections and no amount of antibiotics would control it. I tried to cut down on dairy and also alcohol as this could make it worse.
Have you seen a doctor to see if you need them 'flushed'? I had this done and this made a significant difference to me.

Hi HTH,

Thanks a lot for your reply.
I did see a specialist and was told that i need a surgery to remove all mucus from the cavities. However, I am on the wait list for it and still suffering from frequent colds & infections. I am tired of it and thought maybe someone has a piece of advice or two for me...

Hi,

Have you tried steam? It really helps my sinus problems. I use a facial sauna at least 4 times a day when my sinuses are really painful and sometimes put a drop of olbas oil in or a few grains of menthol.

I had surgery after repeated infections. Apparently it can be a sign of thyoid problems, could be worth having it checked.

I suffer from them and end up with severe sinus pain - GP usually gives me a script for amoxicillin which deals with it.

Some self help things which I have done include: taking echinacea, elderberry extract, sniffing camphor added to boiling water, sniffing Olbas Oil and adding it to the pillowcase at night.

I don't know what the long term treatment for them involves, but I guess I'll find out one day because I seem to be having them more and more these days.

Hope you feel better soon.

Agree with Room, go to the chemist and get some menthol chrystals which you put into boiling water to then inhale.

I recommend a neti pot. It is like a little teapot, you use a saline solution in warm water, and pour it into one nare (nasal cavity) and it goes up into sinuses and returns out the other side of your nose! You can feel solution going up into your forehead sinuses. Afterwards you blow your nose and get out lots of gunk, it's wonderful! Walgreen's sells one complete w 50 packets of saline mix for around $15.

My doctor son heartily disagrees with this. He discussed it with ENT colleague who disapproves of it.

The facial sauna mentioned earlier sounds good too!
