Copper coil - anyone had adverse symptoms?

I'm feeling rubbish today, and have done for a few weeks, and am wondering if it could be down to copper toxicity from the copper coil I've recently had fitted. I'd previously been on the pill, then the Mirena which didn't suit me at all (hormones give me all the side effects.)

I'm also vegetarian and according to the info I've found, this makes me far more susceptible to copper toxicity. The symptoms of hair loss, fatigue, bloating, mild depression all seem to fit and my lower abdomen is really aching today despite my period not being due for weeks.

It's so frustrating, I just something that works without all of this. Don't know whether to give it another few weeks or get it taken out asap.

Just wanted to say ive had the complete opposite experience to the copper coil. I struggled with birth control pills for years, having all the possible symptoms and not realizing just how rubbish and depressed they made me feel until i chose to come off them! Because of this the only birth control my doctor would happily give me is the copper coil because its non hormonal. Being young ( 19 when i had it fitted ) and never had children or even a smear test i was VERY scared and reluctant because of the pain ect. However i was pleasantly surprised, it did hurt, but NO WHERE near the agony that some people had been saying and the whole thing was over and done with in 10 minutes from going in the room to leaving. it was definitely bearable considering the years of sickness, depression and constant UTI infections caused by the pill! As for long painful cramps and periods after, i had slight cramping, no worse than a slighly worse than normal period the evening that i had it fitted, and had a bit of spotting for around 3 days and that was it for a month, where i had a normal, if not slightly more painful, but not terrible, period and thats how my periods have been for 6 months now, and i feel fantastic, no side effects what so ever. my only regrets are not having it done earlier! so to anyone who is worried about getting it done due to pain and side effects, i wouldnt be worried at all!

Really interested to read all this as I'm seriously hoping to have my copper coil removed soon. Got a smear on Tuesday and was going to ask nurse to whip it out then! Had it for about 2 years but constantly spotting or bleeding since then. I've just had enough. The merina though disagreed with me too. I've heard there's a new contraceptive available where you just go to gp for Injection every few months. Going to ask about that.

Cupcakes the strings are perfectly normal, you should be able to feel them. In fact I think you're supposed to check they are still there every few months.

Cupcakes. GP informed me at my fitting that the strings can be trimmed if dh can feel them. I was also told to check I could still feel the strings after each period.

Happy to report that I have today had the copper coil removed! Exhilarated!

So now waiting for symptoms to clear up and... Wondering what contraception to try next...

There doesn't seem to be a perfect contraception does there?

So i went to get my copper coil out today cos ive been feeling depressed, tired, moody, periods are sore n long about 10day on n off then when ovulating the pain is even worst. I've never been abel to lose weight i just put it on even tho i workout 4 days a week n eat well. Really need it out. Turns out that they cant find it n i need to go get a scan which isnt going to be for up to 5-6 weeks. Im worried about what this coil is doing to me. It has been great for 3 years but for the last 6 months ive been feeling crap i hope this is the reason tho they hav tested for everything else Sad

I had the copper coil for over 9 years it was amazing not an issue. Had it taken out for about a year. And then 6 weeks ago had it put back in, everything was fine until I got my first period, omg the bloating, the depression, the just feeling tired and not my self. I have never had all this before … and had it removed today. I still feel the same and my tummy is tender .. I hope I feel brand new again in a few days. I train hard at the gym and eat healthy .. and my have never felt so big and bloated and just generally horrendous in myself!
I have never know the copper coul
to do this.
