Having mirena coil fitted....

...and my boss has asked me to chair an important meeting at 6pm on the same day. Coil fitting is at 12.30.

I've never had a coil before and am wondering if the fitting will make me feel shitty and need to take rest of the day off work? In which case will need to make some kind of vague medical appointment excuse to my boss and bow out of the meeting or change the coil appointment.

Any thoughts?

Mine was fitted without prior consent, so I felt a bit Hmm. But I have to say it didn't hurt and in the absence of the hysterectomy I wanted, has been great.
I felt nothing after, apart from the annoyance that they did not listen to me when I said "I will not have anymore children, rip it out, do it now."

But that's just me.Grin

Whoah, that's awful Dione but on the plus side at least it wasn't painful!

I had mine fitted in the evening.

It wasn't pleasant. Physically, you will be able to do the meeting but I would rearrange the appointment so that you can go home and eat ice cream and feel sorry for yourself.

I came home absolutely HATING my husband that he didn't have to go through something so uncomfortable in the name of contraception.

That's kind of what I thought! Believe me if it was just for contraception there's no way I'd be doing it, but trying to deal with awful PMT, heavy periods, migraines etc and other treatment hasn't helped so reluctantly giving mirena a go.

Then give it a bit of time. That's why I'm on it and after the first 15months it has done what it said on the tin. I went from having a period every 2-3 weeks to having a light bleed once every 6-8 weeks.

Still not having any sex though.:(

The fitting is unpleasant and I did have to have a 20 min sit down afterwards but a 6 pm appointment should be fine.

I love mine. I had awful peiods and now I barely norice them Smile

Thanks for the advice, feel reassured now. I have v nice GP who said she would take it out again after 3 months if its not for me, but appreciate I may need to leave it longer than that...
