Incontinence after hemorrhoids removal?

Just spoke to my mum who had the op few days ago. First 3 days she was sore but ok. Now for last 3 days she can't really hold it in and lets a bit out, iyswim.

She will call her doctor tomorrow, but is freaking out right now, so I would like to be able to reassure her- or to tell her to make sure the doctor takes her seriously tomorrow.

So could it be a normal side effect of the op?

Is this urine and faeces or just one of those? Is she numb around the bottom/genital area? If it's urine and she's numb then I would get her to call nhs24 or an out of hours doctor (nerve compression - needs urgent treatment). If it's just a bit of muscle weakness around the anal sphincter it may get better with practise.

I'm not a doctor by the way! If worried always call right away so I thought I'd not leave the post unanswered.

There's some info here.

Thanks. No, it's just faeces- she got a diarrhea 3 days after the op and since then has been letting out a bit iyswim. But she says she can feel the anus muscles, so she's not numb.

She's a bit swollen, sore etc so I'm thinking it could be that, plus her sphinters (sp?0 might be bruised, but just googled a bit and it all seems a bit grim. It's all about incontinence as a complication, not just a passing side effect.

Worried now, as she already had an op for her lazy eye few years back and they fucked it up and left her with a scar, which made her v.self-conscious. I will be really pissed off if they screwed this.

Does anyone have/had any experience of this, please?

I hope she's okay in a few days, try not to worry too much but do tell the doctor that you are worried (or ask your mum to get the doctor to call you and let you ask about chances of complications etc).
