my 10 month old had an accident the other day, she fell out her high chair, i put her in in the morning quickly while i went to grab her bottle, i forgot to strap her in. i know im a terrible mum i feel awful, anyway she fell out and landed on her face, it was a hard floor and she has a big bruise on her forhead, she has been fine but has developed a cold and been a bit moany, but i dont know if thats her cold doing that, should i be worried????

How many days ago did she fall and did you get advice at the time?
I wouldn't have thought a bump on the head would bring on a cold.

it happened sunday morning, i asked my mum and anyone else i could fine at the time, i was on holiday at the time at my dads in inverness, and my step mum has two wee ones and seemed to know a lot about bumps and falls, basically kept an eye on her, like if she was sick or lethargic checked her pupils etc, if she was more sleepy, and that day whenever she did fall asleep she woke up crying which isnt like her, i put that down to her mayb remembering it? she calmed down fine and shes still been her happy hyper self, the rbuise isnt too bad i thought it would have come up worse, i was just a little worried, my mum says she probably just a fright more than anything..
she has a cold but that dosnt seem to be bothering her much either

That's a very high fall, you should have taken her to A&E. Children can have a slow bleed which is hard to detect. I really do think that you should get her seen by a doctor.

it was a travel chair, it was only about 3 foot off the floor, and put on a table chair which was very low down, so it wasnt a very high fall, i was going to take her to hospital but everyone was telling me buimps happen all the time, she onyl has a little mark, i was very worried, but she hasnt changed at all, shes still happy but i maybe will take her up and get an appointment just to be sure

ive just spoke to nhs24, the nurse asked me if she had been unconsious or dazed or groggy after the fall, if she had vomited after, or if she had been groggy the next day, and everything else she asked id said no to, she told me to give her paracetamol every 4 hours if she seems upset, probably just gave her a head ache for a while after, but as long as she hadnt been uncousiness dazed or had a fit or anything or been acting out of charcter, she could be fine, but if i was worried i can go see my doctor, put me at ease a bit

Bumps to face are usually fine. Also a big bruise that appears on the outside is usually ok. Bruises can move down following gravity, so a bruise to the forehead may turn into a black eye after a few days.

Minor headinjury like that will not bring on a cold.

You were given the ususal (good) headinjury advice.
If you are still worried about her, then get her seen in RL, nothing anybody can say on-line with any certainty.

Don't go straight to hospital, you'll wait for hours, will your GP not check her out as an emergency ie sometime today?

sapphireblue · 07/09/2010 13:09

A puffy eye is probably just the start of a black eye.........DD1 had this after running face first into a brick wall. She had a right shiner as well as an enormous lump on her head. It's amazing hoiw resilient these little people are.

Hope you get on ok at a&e.

3 feet is quite a fall. My 2 year old fell from the kitchen counter so I phoned A&E and was told to bring him straight in as he had bleeding from his ear.

glasgowmandy · 07/09/2010 16:14

well i am just back from a and e. waited 2 hours!! but was worth it, she had a full check up and she is absoltley fine, the red eye is actually the start of conjunctivits! and she just has a little cold which explains why she is grumpy and tired, was well worth it for peace of mind! thanks for all the advice, im glad i went x

2 hours is pretty quick, you know. Glad she is okay, you were very lucky.
