Lochia question (TMI alert!)

MrsMopple · 05/09/2010 21:25

I am nearly 7 weeks post delivery, but it was a section at 34 weeks and a twin pregnancy (not sure if that's relevant!). My lochia was quite heavy and prolonged, but tailed off to a pinky discharge. There is still a bit of discharge and when I see it (on toilet paper) it has a slight greenish tinge which worries me a bit.
But a more worrying thing is, this morning I noticed a quite strong and quite unpleasant smell when I went to the loo, which was coming from the pant liner I had been wearing overnight. Very hard to describe the smell, as it's unlike anything I've smelt before but almost yeasty. I have noticed it throughout today, too. I have my post partum check on Tuesday, but wondered whether I should see a GP tomorrow in case there's anything awful happening internally.
Any ideas what it could be and would you go to the GP tomorrow or wait until Tuesday?

With a smell I'd go tomorrow and ask for a swab incase of infection. Do you have a temperature at all?

MrsMopple · 05/09/2010 21:33

No temperature, and I feel absolutely fine apart from the usual lack of sleep tiredness that goes with newborn babies.

The only stupid thing I have done is lift up my eldest child a few weeks back, which tugged at my internal stomach wounds a bit and hurt for a few days afterwards. I'm wondering whether I could have caused a problem then.

And stupid question, but how would I get an infection so far after the c section? (There hasn't been any activity in that area since the birth!)

you haven't eaten asparagus have you? [hopeful straw]

MrsMopple · 05/09/2010 21:38

Thanks drinkyourmilk, but no, it's not asparagus. I always think that asparagus wee smells like burnt dust!

I'm off to bed, so won't be back on until morning, but advice / suggestions welcomed!

I would go sooner rather than later. You have 2 of the things that they tell you to go to GP for. I can't remember what the others are mind you!

MrsMopple · 06/09/2010 11:31

Went to the GP who said it sounded like there could be retained products and gave me some antibiotics and has referred me for a scan to see if there has been anything left behind. If there isn't anything on the scan and I still have the issue after the antibiotics then they'll do swabs etc.
