Im 43 and being treated for endometriosis - treaing with pain killers but noticed my period have started to appear every 23 days plus this month was really heavy for 3 days with huge clots - never had these before.

I had a scan last year that showed endo on ovaries and a very small fibriod. May 2010 was re-scanned and fibriod not there.

Is it just a sign of age?

No, nothing to do with your age.
Changes outside your "norm" need to be further investigated by a gynae (not the GP as such problems are more often than not outside their remit).

It could well be that your endo and fibroids are making a resurgence.

Painkillers are only a short term solution to a long term problem i.e the endo. Have they not lasered the endo off your ovaries?.

Are you under the care of a gynae, you really need to be under the care of such a person if you are not already.

Attila - are you in med profession? Just wondering as you seem to know.

Long story but had lap last yr and thought it was being removed but it turns out the area was "washed out"??? 6 weeks later pain returned so after research and recommendation found a specialist who was shocked that endo hadnt been excised (this is the preferred method nowadays) anyway my pain is minimal compared to others and as endo is on ovaries excision is risky due to damage to them so am having pain killers but monitoring with scans...am happy with this and feel confident with consultant.

Anyway getting back to current problem I did mention to him a few months back that my periods seems to be every 26/27 days but 3 of them have come after 23 days...he commented that I was approaching that age where this may happen. I hadnt had the clotting or heaviness them though. Im seeing him end of Oct also having a scan so will mention

Not in medical profession at all. Am a long suffering endometriosis patient even though its better these days (had ovarian diathermy surgery done by a cons gynae several years ago and he did a good job of removing it). Still have symptoms of it from time to time though.

Mine have been like this for about 6 months, although 23 days in between is maximmum and sometimes as little as 15 days. I went to the doctors a couple of weeks ago and she said I needed a coil and gave me family plannings details.

I made an appointment, but they won't touch me. Partly because DH has had the snip (which I told the doctor), but mainly because she couldn't beleive the doctor had suggested a remedy without finding a cause.
Now I have to go back to docs, but keep putting it off.

why do GP's think the Coil is the answer to everythign nowadays!

Ive also have the worse bad back ever lat few days so am thinking it maybe related. Have got my scan through for Oct so will get it all checked out. how are you Pantaloons?
