Has anybody tried or is doing callanetics - is it as great as it claims to be - I am considering ordering a couple of videos - have to get back in to shape somehow but I hate the gym!

Sorry to disolusion you clevercat, but I feel the only way to seriously lose weight is to do something that makes you sweat. This is the only way you actually burn off acess fat. You need to burn more calories than you consume. I hate the gym too, but enjoy excercise classes and running. Skipping is also meant to be very good - you could do this in your garden!

I would be interested to know how the callanetics goes if you decide to try it! Good luck.

I tried callanetics a few years ago and found it surprisingly hard work! It works in a similar way to Pilates; stretching muscles and toning gently. It's great for gradual, visible results and would be particularly effective in conjunction with something that makes your heart work, like walking or swimming. Most leisure centres now run Pilates classes, so I would definitely recommend trying one.

just to chuck the cat among the pigeons I lost 2 and a half stones with weightwatchers without so much as lifting a finger exercise wise, compared with years ago when I went to the gymm nearly every night for two years with no improvement in weight /shape.
