Sleep in eyes

Hi
Our 14 week old son has started getting a yellowish kind of sleep in his eyes. We noticed it this morning and after cleaning it, it has come back after his nap.

Is this normal or should we get it checked out?

Thanks
Frank

That could be a sign of an eye infection like conjunctivitis.
Are his eyes red or pink?
Does he rub them?
You should probably get him checked by a doctor if you are at all concerned. Such infections can be highly infectious and they can affect the eyesight if they go untreated for a long time.

Also, has he had a cold recently?
There are cases where the mucus from the sinus passages are forced out through the inside corners of the eyes.
This is not an infection and does not need treating. It clears up when the nasal blockage does.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, he had a cold last week and is just over it.

The eyes are not red or bloodshot and the yellowish mucus seems to stopped for the time being.

I understood from the health visitor that it could be blocked tear ducts, but the cold/blocked nasal passage sounds logical.

We will keep a close watch on him.

Thanks for your help.
