Do I need To wait For A period Before Taking The Mini-Pill ??

I haven't been on the pill for years and the dr I saw this morning said I would need to wait for my period to start before taking it. I have a vague memory of this not being the usual advice years ago.
If the reason for waiting for a period is to make sure , I know I am definately not pregnant so it is a waste of time . If I take her advice it will be 2 weeks plus another 7 days (according to the packet instructions)before it is safe . I will have gone right of the idea by then.
Can I start taking it straight away and wait 7 days.. Also as a bonus does being on the minipill help pmt and have you found any side effects??

As far as I remember (it's been a long time!), they only advise you to start it on the first day of your period as a way of making sure you're not already pregnant. I'm pretty sure you can start taking it now, but you'd need to take additional precautions - and I think it would need to be for longer than a week, although I'm sure someone will come along with more up-to-date information for you pretty soon.

Thanks , maybe I should wait.Possible side effects sound like a contraceptive in themselves!!
