IBS, oh the pain :(

After having gall bladder out, what used to be a few small stomach problems from an old ucler now is major pain. I feel sick when I wake up, feel sick if I do eat, sick if I dont. I have pain under my right breast like a stabbing pain and pretty much diahorra all day. The pain spreads to my back and is more between my ribs then anywhere else. Im sick of feeling so yuck and always wondering where the toilets are.
The GP just gives my tablets all the time which works for a while, but then stops :( I have only ever seen the GPs about this and he always says IBS. Does it sound right? I understand the sickness, diahorra and bowel pain all sounds like IBS but the upper pain is so horrible.
TIA

There's a condition where whats left of the bile duct can go into spasm and can cause the pain you're describing. You need to be scanned again to make sure there are no stones left.

You could well be having IBS pain also, ask for an antispasmodic.

Don't be fobbed off, you need a referral back to your consultant.

Agree with Pheebe, you need to see the consultant again. Sorry to hear you are feeling so sick.

lisaad123 you've got loads going on in your life, a lot of stress, the GP will understand. You need to look after yourself as much as you can, and think of your own wellbeing.

I've not known sickness with IBS... definitely ask for a referral.

I have no experience of IBS only Coeliac Disease but was at the Allergy Show and they said that people should only be diagnosed with IBS after being tested for everything else. Have you been tested for Coeliac Disease? If not, maybe have a look at the symptoms

BelleDameSansMerci · 25/08/2010 17:15

Have you tried Colpermin? I know it's just an over the counter thing but it's really helped me with my IBS pain.

I didnt get a test for a thing, he just said IBS Blush will go again, but betting i get no where fast

Agree with Booner, so many of gut issues are linked to gluten, but drs still prefer to fob you off with the tablet that only aims to cover up the symptoms.
My mum suffered for years with gut, but when we eventually ditched wheat and diary pretty much all the symptoms went away. Shame we didn't get this advice from drs, but had to find it ourselves.
If you have gall bladder out, you might also need some enzymes to break down fatty foods or suitable supplements, otherwise your diet will be incomplete and deficiencies will build up.

Lisad - you can get have a blood test for Coeliac disease (don't cut gluten out until all tests are done) and you can have RAST testing for allergies. It's at least worth getting referred for these tests.

Please don't get fobbed off with tablets and put up with this amount of suffering unless you feel you have been thoroughly investigated.

I am currently eating lots of gluten for 2-3 months before going to get tested for Coeliac Disease myself as my boys have it. Since they were diagnosed I'd had virtually no gluten and felt a lot better for it!

Good luck!
