Belly button hernia operation

I'm probably going to be having an op to cure my belly button hernia following DS2. Have had it for 16 months now. Only small, but tender. Anyone had this? Am nervous about a general anaesthetic and how long before I can go back to work / drive / pick up DS1 and DS2? Seeing the consultant next week but would like some advice first from someone who's had it done.

Hi B52

I left mine and it got bigger make sure you go,it's a simple op. Mine lasted just over a hour as i had to have some of my bowel taken away it became strangled(dangerous).

I only have a litte scar it's a keyhole op and normally takes half a hour - 45 min's.
They push it back up and put mesh there, i haven't had any trouble with mine and it hasn't came back(touchwood).

I couldn't pick the kid's up for 2 week's and it is quite sore after but bearable.

Thankyou thesunshinesbrightly (been on hols so couldn't log on earlier). Have seen the consultant and he advised in and out in an evening, then not to pick anything up which needed 2 hands for 4 weeks afterwards. I'm not having a mesh just some internal stitches and will have a local anaesthetic. Hope mine is bearable too.
