my 4.5 month old bb has started producing cement like poo's which are very dark green. they were like this before he started on solids and my mum is causing me concern by saying that it isn't right etc...
can anyone reassure me or should i be worried?

he's very young to be on solids, womba, what's he taking?

I suspect that if his poos are similar to those when he was only taking milk, then the bulk of his diet is (and still should be) milk, therefore everything's fine!

What has he been eating(anything that colourful or high in iron)? Does he seem constipated? Is he drinking plenty of milk (probably still too early to have dropped a milk feed for solids) and perhaps water too.

Hope it resolves soon

blueberries had that effect on my dd's poos, now I come to think of it!

he has a few spoonfuls of baby rice for breakfast. i thought he was too young also but my ever knowing hv, said a bit of rice would satisfy him more. he isn't that taken with it really... should i stop?

lizs, he still takes 210ml of milk every 4 hours....during the night too!

If all he's taking is a few spoons of rice, and he doesn't like it much, I would stop for now. (Have you tasted that stuff? It's foul!). He will do fine on milk for a few more weeks, and when the time comes, I would try him with something tasty like pureed pear or apple!

tissy,i'm in agreement with you. he certainly seems to be thriving on the milk too...he weighs 16 pounds 8 oz! thanx for advice and have a good day x

I weaned ds at 4 months and he was ready - it sooo depends on the child. My ds wasn't that keen on rice either so soon started giving him purees of carrot, apple, pear and sweet potato which he woolfed down. Best of luck with whatever you decide
