My husband was diagnosed about 4 years ago after his first episode at the age of 36. Had lost so much weight it was quite scary but once diagnosed and put on the correct medication he started to recover relatively quickly. It did take a bit to get over the depression and fear of eating (which apparently is quite common with crohns). He is now totally back to normal and luckily has not had anymore episodes some people aren't always so lucky. If you friend is being diagnosed and they can find a medication that can work for her then hopefully she will be on the mend soon. Hopefully someone will come along soon to give you some better advice. All the best.
