Any cure? I have had them for 15 years with no chance what so ever. Doctor was no help as told me there was no cure and no amount of washing, exfoliating etc works. Any way to reduce them? Creams to use etc?

DS 2.5 has had this from birth. I never knew what it was until now! Wow, the things you learn on MN! I asked the paed at his 2 month check up and she said it was atopic excema.

Have just realised that mine are gone for the first time ever. I have just done a low-carb diet, so there may be something there as mentioned by previous posters.

nightcat · 16/08/2010 22:16

my ds had this badly on his legs and arms (looked like infected acne) and some on the back. Since going gluten free (you could say low-carb) it's gone completely from his legs and back, still just goosebumps left on his upper arms, but no longer acne-like.
Even derm said, it was one of those things and not recommended any treatment, nor they said it would go away.
But looks like diet works, on his arms we also started using urea cream in holidays and I am planning to swap it for vit E capsules. I am hoping than next time we see derm it might be gone.
I reckon it's some vit/mineral deficency, my ds is also taking Zn/B vit whaich are good for the skin.

there's another theory that it's tiny mites beneath the skin and blackthorn kills them, remember googling some website that was linked on here a few years back, can't say I've tried it

I once used Body Shop White Musk velvet body creme, and it changed the nature of my skin on my upper arms, it just went away in a few weeks, I.m not sure if they still sell it though.

this is the link, sorry, it was sea buckthorn not blackthornwww.keratosispilaris.org/treatment-options/5830-sea-buckthorn-treatment-guide.html

Ooh that's interesting, I love the Weleda Sea Buckthorn range, the hand cream is lush so maybe I need to go and buy another bottle of the oil or moisturiser. It smells divine!

sanfairyann · 18/08/2010 16:50

sounds promising - might try some myself then if it comes recommended! I've got the neals yard shampoo with buckthorn and that's pretty good

I realise this thread is a little old but wanted to add: Avon Skin So Soft Ultra Serum with Silkening Pearls (I know, stupid name)works brilliantly. Apply a tiny amount twice a day, be sparing because it is very oily, it cleared mine within three weeks. And it smells better than Flexitol, which also works, but not as quickly in my experience.
