Anyone here using the Cerazette mini-pill?

Reason I ask, is that I've just been prescribed Cerazette, and wondered if anyone could tell me what kind of experience they've had using it.

I had been happily using Femulen with no problems for about 4 years but since January of this year, my cycle changed, and I was having just 2 weeks between periods, which obviously wasn't nice. I took myself off Femulen for 3 months, and my cycle went back to normal immediately, but went back to every 12-14 days when I started taking Femulen again. My GP thought that Cerazette might be a better option.

So, can anyone enlighten me with their views on Cerazette? I'm particularly interested in how it affects periods, as the pack information seemed to suggest that bleeding could be irregular or non-existant.

i took it a while ago. my periods were regular with it but i stopped taking it because of the mood swings it caused. i also put on weight and lost all interest in sex. it will probably affect you completely differently tho, reactions tend to be specific to the person taking it. hth

I started taking it about a week ago, after having DD2.Since then I've discovered that it isn't reccomended for people who've had an ectopic pregnancy, which has worried me.I'm going to think long & hard about whether I continue with it.

As for side effects-I've not noticed any yet.I used to take Marvelon which was great.

hoppybird-I've never taken this sort of pill before & the instructions confused me a bit.Do you keep on taking it,packet after packet & not stop for a break like with other pills?

cerys · 27/08/2005 18:59

I took it earlier this year while I was still breastfeeding DS, but had to come off it because the mood swings were horrendous. I was screaming banshee woman and DH and the DDs were scared of me .
I'm on Microgynon now but it has definitely adversely affected my moods, only not so dramatically.
Hope you find it suits you better. I didn't have any bleeds at all, but maybe I didn't take it for long enough!

Mirage, yes you do just take a pill every day, no breaks. Why is cerazette so contra-indicated if previous eptopic?? Or would it be the same with an progresterone only pill??

I was told that with all of the hormonal contraception (except combined pill) that you can get erratic unpredictable bleeding/long/spotty periods, esp. for the first 3 months. I've taken Cerazette & Micronor & now have an implant, and would say the advice was about right for all 3. hth.

any progesterone only pill... contraception, even. One thing I like about the implant is not having as much risk of an eptopic as an IUD creates.

I was on Cerazette recently as I was still b/feeding. I found my periods went the opposite way ie they were really heavy and lasted about 2- 3 weeks . Didn't have mood swings though, or not that I noticed, or any other side effects.
Now off the pill, as dh has finally had the snip and periods seem to have gone back to normal [fingers crossed emoticon]

mirage and fqueenzebra - reading the Cerazette pack info, I can't see any contra-indication for women who've had previous ectopic pregnancies.

However I remember reading somewhere (can't remember where) that if a woman becomes pregnant whilst taking any progesterone only pill(mini pill), the pregnancy has a higher chance of being ectopic.

Lots of varied experiences then! I'll just have to see how it goes, I suppose. Thanks for replying, everyone! I know it's quite a new pill, so I guessed there wouldn't be many who had used it.
