Wierd period, warning, may be TMI...

I'm sorry if this is a little unpleasant, but am a little confused.

My periods are usually fairly regular and "normal" - as in red, hurt a bit for the first twenty-four hours and last around five days.

My last one lasted about twenty-four hours, didn't hurt at all and consisted of (look away now if squeamish)a a thick, black substance.

Should I be worried? I'm on the pill (yasmin) and haven't had anything like this before.

If anybody has any explanation I'd be grateful. A funny period seems a bit of a petty thing to bother the doctor with, but I am a bit worried.

Is there any chance you might be or might have been pregnant?

It sounds like a clot to me - I would perhaps ring NHS direct or make a non urgent appointment with the doctor.

StuckInTheMiddleWithYou · 10/08/2010 19:26

I'm on the pill, so I wouldn't have thought so. I did manage to forget three days of pills three weeks ago. I didn't think much of it as I've done that before and my period came as usual. I know I am coming across as dreadully irresponsible here.

Feel a bit of a tit going to the doctor over a period lol. Suppose I should.

Was it at the usual time for you?

StuckInTheMiddleWithYou · 10/08/2010 19:33

About three or four days early.

Isn't Yasmin the mini - pill though? My mum got pregnant on that.

I would go to the doctor if I was you - it's not like you are going to A&E about it - I am sure they see people for much less serious things.

It may be nothing, but worth just getting it checked out in case it is something relevant.

purplepeony · 10/08/2010 20:13

I would do a PG test asap. It i s possible to have a period when PG so you need to find out.

purplepeony · 10/08/2010 20:14

Sorry to sound bossy but missing 3 pills is really taking a bit of a risk- you should take extra precautions after missing 1- do find out soon.

StuckInTheMiddleWithYou · 10/08/2010 20:24

I know Purplepeony, I know. I'm sounding like a daft teenager here, when I'm actually an over-educated thirty-year old. We've just been so busy this month and we only did it once...

If this wasn't my own thread I'd be being bossy too.

Will wee on a stick asap.

Thank you Ladies.

Do let us know how you get on Smile.

StuckInTheMiddleWithYou · 10/08/2010 20:49

I will do.

One reason why I am puzzled, is that I've sort of convinced myself that I am infertile. It's a long story, but if I'm pregant I'll eat my laptop.

I will hold you to that Grin.

solo · 10/08/2010 20:53

I was infertile too ~ officially!
I have 2 Dc's now, conceived naturally, the first one is 12 today!

StuckInTheMiddleWithYou · 10/08/2010 21:04

Ok, that's me not getting any sleep until the stick is weed on.

Is there a 24 hour supermarket you can go to for a pg test?

purplepeony · 10/08/2010 21:46

Not quite the same but I took a chance ( not a great one) with having one episode of sex in a month at a time when I was sure I could not get PG- early in cycle and my cycles were always 30+ days- I now have a 21 yr old DD to show that the safe period does not exist.

StuckInTheMiddleWithYou · 10/08/2010 22:06

Thank you all for your support. The only thing 24hr round here bizarrely is MacDonalds.

I'll be back tommorow night with the results.

I'm sure we'll all be here too!

mrsPrudent · 11/08/2010 07:59

I'm a bit concerned about the nature of what you passed, tbh - black stuff usually means old blood, doesn't it? I think? I'm not sure why it would be like that, it isn't a peculiar pregnancy type thing really.

I think you might be wise to see the GP in either case, I mean pg or not.

Hope it is nothing to worry about though.

purplepeony · 11/08/2010 08:55

Black blood can be quite normal. It could be that the OP cycle just got a bit mixed up with missing the pills. I have had periods that began or ended with black blood- usually began with it.

StuckInTheMiddleWithYou · 11/08/2010 17:01

Ok, not pg. I'm going to see my GP about something else this week anyway, so I'll ask about it then.

Cheers m'dears.

Thanks for coming back- see your GP and maybe repeat the test soon?

flibbertigibbert · 12/08/2010 08:16

Let us know how you get on with the GP. I posted about the same thing recently but didn't get any replies. I'm on Dianette which I think is quite similar to Yasmin in terms of hormones. Google searching revealed lots of people on Dianette saying the same thing about their periods so I think the pill can cause it.

StuckInTheMiddleWithYou · 12/08/2010 18:25

Well I went to the GP and she thought it may be due to stress. She did say to do another test if it happens again next month. I'm not going to worry about it.
