"Pine Mouth" - everything tastes bitter days after eating pine nuts - anyone else had it?

I have an almost constant gritty bitter taste in my mouth, its worse when I eat and only unaffected by water.

I was regularly snacking on pine nuts over the weekend and Googling has pretty much convinced me I have a case of Pine Mouth - I'm 3 days in and it's really horrid.

Anyone else ever had it? Please tell me it'll be over soon ..

My mum had it, you can only get it from Chinese pine nuts apparently. I think you just have to wait it out.

WingDad · 05/08/2010 01:02

I've always hated pine nuts, they taste like the smell of public toilets!

And yes, apparently all you can do is wait it out; sorry!

Heard of this on here before, I really want it - sounds like a fab diet tool

BuongiornoPrincipessa · 05/08/2010 04:15

Yup, lasted about 10 days. It's horrible.

How odd! Are Chinese ones just like normal ones apart from country of origin? Or a different thing altogether?

JellyBelly10 · 09/08/2010 10:31

Strange isn't it! I had it and it lasted about 2 weeks, it was cups of tea that were the worst, so bitter. I've now checked packets in every supermarket and can only find ones that say produce of China, no European ones anywhere. European ones are a different shape, apparently longer and thinner. Apparently if you cook with them the effect isn't there, just raw ones. Frankly after that experience I'll just live without them! I fed the rest of the packet to our gerbils! I wonder if they got Pine Mouth too?!

NorbertDentressangle · 09/08/2010 10:33

Yep I had it too.

In fact there's been a few people on here that have had it -lasts from between a few days to a few weeks IIRC.

It took me almost a year before I dared eat them again.

bintofbohemia · 09/08/2010 16:07

I had this, bloody awful. Again it lasted about 10 days.

OOOh! interesting about cooking sorting them out - that's good, thanks for that. It would be tricky to avoid them altogether.
