Need a good HIV site...

New to this forum, I wondered if anyone had a HIV website which was easy to understand, factual and useful.

Have just been told by a close friend that he has HIV. Has for a few years. Of course now I know I worry for him so much. I want to get some good information..eg if myself and DS have day to day viruses, sniffles , are we still ok to stay with him, or could we make him ill etc.

Am trying to be brave and not get too upset for him, but if I educate myself it'll be a little less scary hopefully?

Have you looked at the Terrance Higgins Trust?

Being HIV positive (rather than having full blown AIDS) is often quite manageable these days as the drugs can be very effective at keeping it under control and stopping progression.

One of my close friends got HIV in the '80s from contaminated factor 8. He can be more susceptible to colds and other day to day illnesses, but he is able to lead a pretty normal life.

The THT is a very good source of information but tbh as far as colds etc. go I would ask your friend how he feels about this, and bear in mind that his feelings may change over tine depending on his health

Yes he is managing it well, with drugs, and after initially being given 6 months to live, is still here 7 years later.

I didn't have time to have a really indepth chat with him, so I want to swot up a bit.

He does need a lot of rest, and I am now mindful of dragging him round activities with DS, and can pay more attention to his needs.

THT - omg can't believe I didn't think of the site. Thanks guys.
