So I have had a pessary, a tablet and a tube of cream,.
I haven't had thrush for over a year and not so persistent.
Help.
Any home treatments to recommend?

live yoghurt.

Goober · 01/08/2010 20:24

A few drops of tea tree oil in your knickers.
And/ or natural yogurt smeared into...ahem....area and also eaten.

zanz1bar · 01/08/2010 20:24

How and where?

Goober · 01/08/2010 20:26

Not together though.

Littlepurpleprincess · 01/08/2010 20:48

It helps to eat live yoghurt regularly to keep thrush away (I get thrush a lot) but also you can put a bit up inside IYKWIM when you've got it. I can't say it clears it completely but it helps.

TheOldestCat · 01/08/2010 20:52

I've never applied the yogurt topically, but eating it (and limiting yeast and sugar) has helped me. You poor thing; thrush is horrid. Hope you feel better.

Would add the usual 'ear cotton pants' 'avoid tight trousers' lines, but I'm sure you know that!

Grapefruit Seed extract - tablets and liquid. 2 tablets twice a day and 20drops of GSE in 1oz water and use to wipe as you final wipe after you use the loo. Also was your nickers/jammie bottoms at 60 degrees to kill it off. Has you OH been treated? You can pass it back and forward between you during sex.

zanz1bar · 01/08/2010 21:04

Where do you get grape seed extract from?

I will try anything

My mum recommended a peeled garlic clove, inserted.

DO NOT TRY THIS. I suffered it so you don't have to. Leaving aside the sting and the lack of effect, it makes you reek for a week.

oopsandbabycoconuts · 01/08/2010 21:12

I oddly got mine from Amazon it worked for my thrush and for DD's mouth thrush too.

Goober · 01/08/2010 22:25

Avoiding white bread is a good plan too.

Stretch · 01/08/2010 22:28

and wine...

jennifersofia · 01/08/2010 22:37

I stopped using tampons and it cleared up, and has not returned.

lemsiprocks · 01/08/2010 22:40

at hester - poor you
It may be worth having a swab taken if the thrush treatments haven't worked.

flibbertigibbert · 02/08/2010 00:52

I've heard that the yogurt on a tampon thing is a bad idea as it pushes the infection further up.

Thrush is a form of candida and is caused by an over growth of 'bad'. Look up candida albicans detox there are plenty of foods that will help you kill it off and there are plenty you should avoid. Be careful though as with any detox you shouldn't go at it too quickly start eliminating gradually.
Oregano, Cinammon and garlic are really powerful anti-fungal (to be taken orally). Also a pro-biotic supplement might help. If you have a local vaginal thrush infection it is likely that the candida came from your gut first so try to address the root of the problem rather than just the symptoms. Good luck.
