Hi sorry if this is TMI but I really need some advice.

I suffer with IBS (after all else eliminated) and have been chronically aneamic (blood found in stools at 17) since I was 10 yrs old.

From 10 til about 18yrs I was seriously underweight with a pot belly and had a lot of sickness and dioherria (sp?). I was the ndiagnosed with constipation a few years back and have a large amount of laxitive type medicine on perscription. During an eamination (camera) a few years back it was exp.tremly painful and consultant said my bowels are sensitive.

Three years ago I had an anal abcess with fistula and anothr anal abcess last year. (both treated surgically)

Yesyerday I noticed bright red blood on the tissue after usinf the loo which has got worse over today and is now stinging slightly.

I tend to adviod the gp with complaints like this as its usually treated with oh well you have IBS.

Any advice about what I should do both at home to treat and regarding speaking to the GP??

Once again sorry for graphic info but hoping for some advice.

What do you think is the cause of the bleeding? You are more of an expert than anyone.

Could it be an anal fissure caused by a very large BM? If so, it could take quite a few days to heal, especially if it keeps opening up again.

TBH, with your history, I think it would be wise to see your GP.

have you tried cutting out dairy?
i am pretty sure that lots of dairy is what was making me anaemic

i would imagine that the blood is just a small tear or something. iirc bright red blood isn't anything to be concerned about, if it's darker you need to worry.
but keep an eye on it and do see your GP if you're worried

Agree with Mme... but after i had cs (and before!) after a poo i often had fresh blood (small amounts) on toilet paper, ut after one night where i kept waking with pain (tmi? sorry!) i had to see the gp and i had piles!! in my case he said although remedies were avilable to just let things sort themselves out, which they have

moaningminniewhingesagain · 31/07/2010 21:35

You do need to see GP. May be a little tear/fissure or piles, but they need to check it out.

IBS not associated with any blood loss usually, so best seek medical advice.

My DH had IBS once. At least that's what the GP called it. I think largely because it was digestion problems and he didn't have a clue what else to call it.

Anyway, when he had bleeding, he was taken straight to hospital and it was found that in fact he had diverticular disease.

He hasn't now. He had an operation and is cured. No more IBS at all.

Sounds like piles or large BM- especially the stinging makes me think about small anal fissure due to large poo.

yousaidit · 31/07/2010 21:50

throbby stinging was my piles

hth's

mumbar · 31/07/2010 22:02

yes have piles (had for years) and a skin tag (again for years but cons said could be worse to cut it off when I asked )

I had thought of fissure but have had no large BM have had very soft stools for a few days and 2 nights ago had an extremly sharp reoccuring pain on my right side round to my back which was before the very soft stools.

have an aneasthetic type gel but unsure if I can use this with a possible open sore??

I think that if you don't know the cause yourself, then you should have it checked out.

With a fissure, you know you've done it at the time.

my auntie is gong through something similar, they said she has divictulitis, and a large polyp, she had the camera, and goes back in a couple of weeks to get that removed and have a berium meal, just to check nothing else is going on,maybe you have a polyp..
