Toddler screaming when eating or drinking

Hello, I am new to this forum and was wondering if anyone had experienced thrush in the mouth or mouth ulcers on the underside of their child's tongue. My son is 2.5 years old and the day before yesterday stopped eating. I noticed white ulcerations on the edge and underside of his tongue. Due to the internet and well meaning grandparents I have been given lots of different advice. He has also seen my doctor who said mouth ulcers and what I was doing was correct, dosing him for pain and using bonjela. It has got a lot worse and now he is not eating and hardly drinking though I am getting some water into him. I have noticed today the coating of the roof of his mouth is slightly white and his tongue is coated. I therefore thought it might be thrush. The question is (sorry for rambling - hardly any sleep) is that has anyone had any luck with Nystatin or Daktarin. I don't really like to give him any of these things but he is so miserable. Am going to try him with natural yoghurt as well I think, if I can

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help with this.

Has he got a temperature? If he is refusing to eat I would think his mouth is really sore and if the GP already said he had ulcers I would be thinking of primary herpes. Take him back to the doctor.
The quickest way for you to have an idea is if you used something like a cotton bud on thrush the white would lift away and be red underneath.

Thanks. I think I will take him back to the doctor tomorrow if no better. Just wish I could do something else for him.
